Swim Groups

The Santa Maria Swim Club offers training and practice groups for swimmers of all ages and ability levels. It is the goal of the Santa Maria Swim Club to offer age specific training for all of our athletes geared towards challenging each individual and developing each individual to the best of THEIR abilities.

Bronze Group

This is our entry level group. An athlete need not be able to swim to enter this group.

Silver Group

From the Bronze group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group focus mainly on learning four legal competitive strokes, having fun, and perfecting start and turn technique.

Gold Group

From the Silver group, athletes move into this group. Athletes in this group are usually at least 10 years old and have completed the Silver Group move-up skills list. This group is exposed to training for the first time while trying to prepare for the 200 Freestyle and 200 Individual Medley races. Competing at swim meets is highly encouraged at a rate of about once per month.

Pre Senior Group

Minimum age for entry into this group is 11 years old. Athletes entering this group must display a desire to begin training on a more committed basis. Competition at swim meets is expected in this group. Training takes precedence over technique work for the first time in the athlete’s development. Athletes in this group train for the 200 Individual Medley and 500 Freestyles.

20 x 100 Freestyle @ 1:40
3 x 200 IM @3:20
10 x 100 Freestyle Kick @ 2:00

 

High Performance Group

Minimum age for entry into this group is 12 (girls) or 13 (boys). Athletes entering the Senior group must display a strong desire to perform at the highest level they are capable of. Training is geared towards individual talents, although a strong aerobic endurance factor is present. Athletes in the Senior group are directed towards making their California-Nevada Sectional Time Standards. Minimum training sets include:

30 x 100 Freestyle @ 1:20
4 x 200 IM @3:00
10 x 100 Freestyle Kick @ 1:45

High Performance Elite Group

Minimum criteria for entry is (1) National time standard and a desire to be competitive on a National level. This group focuses on qualifying for Olympic Trials every 4 years. Minimum training sets for entry include:

4X200IM @ 2:45
