Tom Fristoe Swimming Bio

I have been blessed since I began swimming at the age of 17 to swim fast and far. I swam in the 1984 Olympic Trials in 3 individual events and finished in the top 25 in the world in the 400IM in the same year.

Following trials, I went on to win 4 consecutive 10 mile Seal Beach Rough water swims. In 1985 I began my work career the technology sector and since become a serial tech entrepreneur and my current work is as the founder and CEO of TeamUnify, a rapidly growing technology company that develops and provides tools for swim teams to better manage themselves and now serves over 2,000 swim teams around the world.

While working, swimming was never far away and kept competing in many Master Nationals between 1986 and 1993 winning 30+ National Titles. In 1991 at the age of 31, my :56 100 Breast, 2:02 200 Breast, 1:51 200IM and 4:00 400IM swum at USMS Nationals remain ranked in the top 10 fastest events/times ever swum by any masters swimmer.

Now Current Day:
Swimming open water marathons has regained a significant amount of my time and attention and am now focused on swimming the famed triple crown to help raise money for the Alzheimer's Association.

Carly Fristoe | My Fundraising Support Crew:
My 16 year old Daughter Carly has been by-my-side helping with the website and communication to our donors. As well, working to generate more visibility with companies and other potential individuals that can donate. Her technical skills are incredible and has been a blessing to have her co-piloting our effort together.

How did I Choose to Support Alzheimer's?
It's a family thing. My mother, Ione Fristoe, has late stage Frontaltemporal Dementia which is a term for a decline in mental ability. Alzheimer's is the most common type of Dementia. The mystery of this disease has been extremely difficult to understand and support.

The More I Understand - The More I Want to Help Support Finding a Cure.
No disease is good. However, of the top 10 diseases that that end in death, new Alzheimer's cases
[6th on the top 10 killer list] have climbed 66% since 2000, while all other diseases are declining.

Alzheimer's is an Epidemic of HUGE Proportions. It's a FAR Bigger Issue Than You Think.

  • Every minute a person is diagonsed with Alzheimer's.
  • Worldwide, 24 million people have Alzheimer's and estimated to be 100 million cases within 40 years.
  • Alzheimer's cannot be cured or even slowed
