TEAM HISTORY
Hilton Head Swimming began in 1984
to provide a summer swimming program for Island youth. The
program’s primary mission was, and continues to be, to
promote and encourage the growth and development of competitive
swimming for swimmers of all ages and abilities.
The swim team is now known as Hilton Head Aquatics or H2A. Hilton
Head Aquatics is governed by a nine member volunteer Board of
Directors elected by the membership. The Board, along with five
coaches, and countless volunteer hours by families and swimmers,
strives to achieve a level of excellence in competitive
swimming.
In 1991, the team progressed to a year round competitive swimming program. By 1995, over sixty-five swimmers participated in the year round program.
H2A has continued
to grow in size and scope with participants from Hilton Head,
Bluffton, and Beaufort. Members of the team attend public and
private schools in these communities. The year round program,
sanctioned by USA Swimming, has grown to an average of 90 swimmers
between the ages of five and nineteen, who compete throughout the
southeast.
