excellence in the sport of swimming and in life.
CORE OBJECTIVES
-
Achieve Competitive
Success
Northern Lights Swim Club has enjoyed unparalleled
success in competitive swimming with in the Cook Inlet Area and the
State of Alaska. We seek to continue this tradition of
competitive excellence. When our athletes achieve success in
fulfilling their goals and dreams, our community benefits from the
inspiration these athletes give us.
PHILOSOPHY
There are many rewards for the
person who trains as a competitive swimmer. Physical fitness,
mental alertness and the joys of competitive success are
obvious. Perhaps more valuable, are the development of a
positive self-image and the lessons that discipline and effort lead
to the achievement of goals. Also valuable is learning that
work results in improvement and that time can be managed to include
physical activity, education and social activities. Swimmers
cannot avoid developing nutritional awareness and the benefits of
eating properly. In addition, swimmers develop an awareness
of their responsibilities to themselves, their parents, coaches and
team mates.
The NLSC is a competitive organization. The competitive
emphasis is on developing the athlete to compete at the highest
level the swimmer can attain. In ascending order of
difficulty these levels are: Dual Meets, Invitational Meets, Alaska
Age Group Championships, Alaska Junior Olympics and Long Course
Championships, Senior Championships, Pacific Northwest Age Group
and Senior Sectionals Championships, US Open Championships, Senior
National Championships and Olympic Trials.
The coaches strongly encourage, but do not require, swimmers to
participate in meets with the goal qualify for competition at
higher level competitions.
