About
Golden Bear Swim Club
The
Golden Bear Swim Club was originally formed in 1982 as part of the
University of California’s recreation department. The
University affiliation ended in 1993 and Berkeley Bear Swimming was
created as an independent, non-profit swim club. Bear Swimming
continues to emphasize quality training for ages 4 through
collegiate years. In 2003, Bear Swimming established Bear Swim
School in order to offer high quality, learn to swim lessons and to
provide an introduction to the year-round swim
team.
Why Swim With
BEAR Swimming? (a USA Swimming
team)
First and
foremost: Swimming is fun! The swimmers are able to meet many new
people and make many new friends. A positive feeling of trust and
camaraderie is fostered with their team members. A USA Swimming
team will introduce you to the basic fundamentals of competitive
swimming. The basic fundamentals focus on development of proper
technique, the cardiovascular system, sprint capability, and
education of nutrition, dryland training and goal planning. The
constant challenging of oneself to meet and then exceed their
personal goals builds each swimmers’ confidence. The benefits
of competitive swimming are never ending.
The BEAR
coaching staff realizes that swimming has much to offer everyone.
Our program is based on the philosophy of quality
not quantity. Our primary focus is on the development of proper
technique. We believe that swimming teaches individuals one of the
most important lessons in life. One gets out of life what one puts
into it. In swimming, there is a direct correlation between
one’s dedication to swimming and one’s success in the
sport.
HARD WORK + CONSISTENT ATTENDANCE = SWIMMING SUCCESS!
We try to instill this maxim within each swimmer we work with and
strive to have each individual carry this valuable lesson with them
into their everyday life.
A GOOD SWIMMER VS. A GREAT
SWIMMER
Mindless swimming will produce good
swimmers. A swimmer with focus, who asks
questions, works on technique at every opportunity, will produce a
great swimmer. The better you train, the better you
swim. Practice makes habit, so practice as perfectly as
possible. The BEAR coaching staff is committed to helping
develop GREAT SWIMMERS.
