Greg Olson

Greg has served as the Director/Head Coach of the HYCAT @ Charleston, Inc Swimming Program for the past 36 years.  Greg serves as the primary coach for the HYCAT Comp 3 & Comp Teams and assists with the HYCAT Comp 1 & Comp 2 Teams.  Greg came to Charleston in 1973 from Indiana University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in coaching.  While at IU, he was an Associate Instructor within the IU Physical Education Department and was an assistant swim coach with the Bloomington Swim Club.  Greg is from Cleveland, OH and began his competitive swimming career at the age of seven.  Greg earned All-American honors on both the High School & College level.  He graduated from Bucknell University in 1970 where he scored the most points in dual & conference meets; held four school records; and received the Bucknell University "Christy Mathewson Award" Outstanding Senior Athlete Award & Bucknell Swimming Trophy.  Greg has two children, Scott & Melissa, who were members of the HYCAT (GCSA/SUN/UCAT) Swimming Program during their competitive careers prior to completing their careers at the college level.  Greg and his wife, Sue, live in the South Hills area of Charleston.  Greg has also served as General Chairman for the West Virginia LSC from 1975-2003 and has also served on several USA Swimming National and Regional committees.  

Joy Kraus

Head Coach at Huntington

Coach Joy Kraus is in her 5th year as head coach of  HYCAT at Huntington.  Prior to being appointed as head coach, Coach Joy was an assitant for the program for 2 years.  Along with her experience at HYCAT Coach Joy brings along club coaching experience from her previous teams, Greater Toldedo Aquatic Club, in Toledo, Ohio,  and Cardinal Community Swim Club in Munice, Indiana where she was an assitant coach.   She also coached several summer league programs, a middle school team and was an camp conselor at the Ball State University swim camps while in Indiana.

Prior to her coaching career Coach Joy began swimming at the age of 7 and continued on through her college years at Ball State University  in Indiana.  While at BSU, Coach Joy achieved several USA National Qualifying times,  NCAA Division I Qualifying Times and one Olympic Trial Qualifying Time. Her Mid-American Conference record in the 50 free, 22.52 stood for 12 years and her 100 free record of 49.51 stood for 10.    She still holds several team records at Ball State in individual as well as relay events.  

Coach Joy graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Ball State University 1997.  She currently is furthing her swimming education with the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) where she is currently level 2 certified.  Coach Joy is a USA and YMCA registered Coach and is certified in CPR, AED, First Aid and Lifeguarding.

Coach Joy is active in the furthing the sport of swimming in West Virginia and is the West Virginia Swimming LSC Age Group Chair. 

Coach Joy and her husband, Leonard Kraus, Head Coach for Marshall University Women’s Swimming and Diving have two daughters, Alena (10) and Makayla (8).
