Frank Grijalva
Head Coach
Email
Frank was an age group swimmer in
Northern California for more than 10 years. He qualified for many
regional and sectional events during a time when that area was
producing many national and Olympic qualifiers. While Frank was
groomed in an intense competitive environment, he believes in a
complete program approach which includes plenty of fun for the
swimmers as well. Frank’s background as a behaviorist gives
him a strong foundation in guiding young swimmers in development.
His experience as a competitive swimmer informs his ability to
motivate experienced swimmers successfully. Frank is a level 2 ASCA
stroke certified coach, and when he is not coaching he works
as a consultant and program developer for at risk children who
come in to contact with community systems both here and
abroad.

I began swimming
competitively at the age of five when I was beyond what swim
lessons could teach me. Actually, my parents let me go in
our high school swimming pool at the age of three months and I
floated back to the top of the water—a good sign. I continued swimming through
junior high, high school, and college at
the
University
of
Minnesota
, Twin Cities Gophers.
I was All Conference,
All
State
, All American, and won USA Swim Central Zone
Championship in the 100 breaststroke in my age group. I still hold the high school
breast stoke record and the medley relay record in
Alexandria
,
Minnesota
.
I was an
assistant swim coach for six years in
Alexandria
,
MN
and
Duluth
,
MN
for the
USA
swim teams. I taught swimming lessons as a
lead instructor for 10 years throughout
Minnesota
.
