
Marcy Warriner Rushing
Head Coach
Sunkist has named former team member Marcy Warriner rushing its new head coach. Rushing, who has earned an ASCA Level 3 coaching accreditation, has been an assistant coach with Sunkist for four years. She also coached for Birmingham Swim league for two years.
Coach Marcy began swimming with the Sunkist Swim Team at age four. She set numerous state records both individually and as a relay team member during her era and was a Senior National Swimmer by the age of sixteen. After graduating from Northwest Rankin High School, Marcy accepted a full swimming scholarship to the University of Alabama, where she broke all-time school records in four events and was named a three-time NCAA Division 1 All-American. She was elected captain her senior year; and during her tenure at Alabama, she received the Most Valuable Freshman Award, the Coach’s Award, and the Terry McElliot Scholarship Award. She also qualified and competed in both the 2000 and 2004 Olympic trials.
Rejoining the Sunkist Swim Team in August 2005 as Head Age-Group coach for the Orange, Blue, Gold, and Junior groups, Rushing has seen incredible success. Since her arrival at Sunkist, she has helped a hosts of first time swimmers qualify for the State Championship Meet. Recently five of her swimmers achieved Age-Group Sectional time standards. Successes such as these have led to a fifty-percent increase in the growth of Sunkist since her arrival. As a former Sunkist swimmer, Coach Marcy has great confidence in the Sunkist program. She believes that good stroke techniques and individual attention equals fast swimming, and she strives to provide both to her swimmers. Our new coach exemplifies the Sunkist family’s commitment to maintaining an environment that produces lifelong friendship and endless opportunities.
