
Ann Urschel

Ann has been a professional swimming coach for over thirty
years. This is her 23rd season (12th year) with Team Foxjet. Ann
has been recognized for an outstanding athletic career that has
included both swimming and golf. She was the first female swimmer
inducted in Ohio State University’s Hall of Fame and an NCAA
Division I All-American. In 1976, Ann was an NCAA National Record
Holder. In her golfing career, she was a six-time club champion
with two different clubs in Ohio. Ann graduated from Ohio State
with a major in Exercise Science and also began her coaching career
in Ohio.
Ann’s swimming background includes both personal experience
as an athlete and many years of coaching. She has coached swimmers
from the youngest level through Olympic Trials qualifiers. A
highlight among her achievements is coaching over 100 High School
All-Americans. Additionally, Ann has been honored as Ohio’s
ASCA Coach of the Year for both Age Group and Seniors, and Ohio
High School Boys Coach of The Year. Most recently, she was selected
as an Assistant Coach for the USA Swimming 2005 National Select
Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and Team
Foxjet was awarded the 2008 Senior Coaching Staff of the The
Year.
Ann brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to our team. She
feels that as a coach it is important to recognize and encompass
the whole person. Her goals for Team Foxjet are to bring all our
swimmers to their highest potential academically, athletically and
socially.

Lloyd Larsen
Head Age Group Coach & SR Gold Assistant

Lloyd has been coaching over twenty
years. This is his 23rd season (12th year)
with Team Foxjet. Earlier in his career Lloyd coached at clubs in
California, South Carolina and Iowa. Lloyd is an ASCA Certified
Level 5 Coach. He has coached swimmers
from the youngest levels through Junior Nationals, US Open and US
Nationals. Lloyd has coached over 100 National Age Group Top 16 or
Top 10 Final Rankings, including several National Age Group
Champions and National Age Group Record Holders. He was honored in
2007 and 2009 by the American Swimming Coaches Association
(national office) as Minnesota Age Group Coach of The Year. USA
Swimming also selected him as an assistant coach for the elite
Central Zone Select Camp. Lloyd was also an accomplished
athlete with many years of swimming with AAU, Edina High School,
St. Olaf College and post-collegiate swimming in the military. At
St. Olaf, he was an MIAC Conference Champion, NCAA Division III
National Qualifier and Co-Captain.
Lloyd believes that developing life
skills and fostering personal growth are the key roles of youth
athletics. He primarily coaches the Senior Gold and Age Group Gold
programs. He also
serves as our Team Administrator, running the website,
registration, processing billing/payments and meet
entries.

Jason Smith
SR Silver & SR Bronze Lead Coach

This is Jason’s 8th season (4th year) with Team Foxjet.
Jason is an ASCA Certified Level 3 Coach. He had a full career of
club, high school and college swimming. As a club swimmer, Jason
emerged onto the national scene by winning junior nationals in the
200 Backstroke. He swam for the
University
of
Florida
for three years. He later transferred to
the
University
of
Minnesota
where he received a B.S. in Sports
Management. After several years in marketing and sales in the NBA,
Jason returned to his true passion in the pool. He has also
run several aquatics programs at a local health club and enjoys
working with a variety of ages and skill sets. Jason’s
coaching philosophy is to help each individual swimmer discover
their full athletic potential. He feels that technical work is
essential to becoming a good swimmer, and encourages swimmers to
set, pursue and achieve their personal goals.

Rick Dunham
AG Silver Lead Coach

This is Rick’s 9th season (5th year) with Team
Foxjet. A highly experienced swimming professional, he been
coaching over twenty years. Rick’s first coaching job was in
Illinois in 1972. Since then he has been involved with coaching,
swimming and water polo in Texas, California, New Jersey, and
Alaska. Rick swam at the University of Texas at Arlington for Coach
Doug Russell. He also swam for Coach Flip Darr in California,
played with the Dallas Water Polo Club and competed at the US Water
Polo Nationals. Rick feels that every swimmer is an important
member of the team, and strives to impart this confidence into
every swimmer. He believes that once a swimmer has this confidence,
they can help other swimmers gain the same
self-confidence.

Brian Nagel
AG Bronze Lead Coach

This is Brian's 6th season (3rd year) with Team
Foxjet. He brings twelve years of coaching experience in Minnesota
swimming - nine as an age group coach and three as a head coach. He
was also the Bloomington Jefferson High School Girls assistant
coach for two years. Before beginning his coaching career in 1998,
Brian swam competively for 15 years with the Richfield Swim Club,
Barracuda Aquatics Club and the Bloomington Kenndy High School for
four years. He was also a member of the Team Minnesota Zone
coaching staff in 2007. Brian believes that perfecting
technique, and individual effort coupled with team support will
give the swimmer a long successful swimming career.

Brenda Larson
Red & ISM Lead, AG Bronze Assistant

This is Brenda’s 8th season (4th year)
with Team Foxjet. She comes to us from Foss Swim School, where she
was a lessons instructor specializing in young children and
pre-competitive programming. Brenda is originally from Wisconsin,
where she was a high school swimmer, and attended the University of
Wisconson - River Falls. Brenda is a mainstay of our programs at
ISM, working with all of our new swimmers in Red Groups and
Minifox. The past two summers, Brenda also worked with our Age
Group 2 swimmers at their morning outdoor practice, training in a
50-meter long course pool. Brenda thrives on working with our
younger swimmers, getting in the water to teach them, both
individually and as a group.

Andrea Kroll
AG Silver Assistant Coach

This is Andrea’s 11th season
(6th year) with Team Foxjet. She has always been called "Andi" on
the pool deck. She is an ASCA Certified Level 2 coach. Andi has ten
years of swimming experience as an athlete. She swam in Grand
Forks, ND and East Grand Forks, MN, and was the first East Grand
Forks Senior high school swimmer in a co-op between North Dakota
and Minnesota. Andi comes from a swimming family, where her three
younger siblings all swam and her parents still volunteer and
officiate. Andi first fell in love with coaching at Northern Area
Swim Association in Bemidji, while attending college there. She
most enjoys teaching technique and helping swimmers develop their
love of the sport.

Amy Killpatrick
AG Gold & AG Bronze Assistant Coach

This is Amy’s 4th season
(2nd year) coaching with Team Foxjet. Now coaching, Amy was also an
outstanding Foxjet swimmer, a Junior National qualifier and ranked
Top 16 in the nation for her age group. She swam with the
University of Minnesota, and served as an assistant coach with the
women's team during her senior year. Amy has also coached numerous
camps and clinics during her years at Minnesota. Amy has a wealth
of experience, assisting with six groups regularly and occasionally
leading two groups as needed.

Laura Templin
SR Assistant & Clinic/Schools Director

This is Laura's 7th season
(4th year) with Team Foxjet. Laura brings over 20 years of
swimming experience to Team Foxjet. She started swimming
competitively at a very young age in
Indiana. She swam four years at Auburn University
under David Marsh where she was an NCAA 11-time All-American,
member of an American Record relay, and member of the 3-time
National Champion team. She has a degree in Industrial Design from
Auburn and currently employed by Speedo. Laura has a passion for
stroke technique that she shares with her mother, Coach Pam
Swander and brother, National Team Athlete Kevin Swander. She
brings a wide range of skills and drills to Team Foxjet. In
addition to her coaching duties, Laura serves as our Clinic/Schools
Director, coordinating programming and staff for the various
special Sunday clinics.

Tara Kelly
Age Groups (all) Assistant Coach

This is Tara’s 9th season (5th year) with Team
Foxjet. She has a degree in biomedical engineering from
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and currently pursuing a
Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Minnesota.
Tara has 15 years of competitive swimming experience, including
club swimming, varsity high school and NCAA Division III. Tara was
on three consecutive Class A championship teams with Red Wing High
School and was an individual State Champion in the 200 IM. In
college, she repeatedly competed in the finals of the
NYSWCAA. Tara was the Head Coach of the Bloomington Jefferson High
School Girls Swimming & Diving Team in 2009.
She also
enjoys open water swimming and in 2005 won the Alcatraz Challenge,
Non-Wetsuit Division, in San Francisco Bay. Tara has lifeguarded
and taught swim lessons for over six years. Most recently, Tara was
an assistant coach with Red Wing Swim Club.

Ariel Horowitz
AG Bronze Assistant Coach

This
is Ariel’s 14th season (7th year) with Team Foxjet, all
of which have been coaching with Age Group Bronze. Ariel is the
longest-tenured coach of any Age Group Bronze coach in the history
of the Foxjets, and does a superb job with this skill level and
age. Over 100 swimmers that have come through this group during her
tenure have achieved a Minnesota Swimming State Meet "Champ" time
at some point before the age of 13. She is a graduate of Kenyon
College (Ohio) where she was a four-year letterwinner and team
captain. During her thirteen years of swimming experience, Ariel
gave private summer swimming lessons to children for seven years in
and around her home town of Pacific Palisades in Southern
California. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and
works for Wells Fargo.

Tasha Lyn Embry
Red Groups Assistant Coach

This is Tasha's 2nd season coaching with Team Foxjet. She
has been a Minifox instructor for several sessions and has coached
two seasons with Red Groups as well. Tasha is very familiar with
our develepmental program and an expert coach for younger swimmers.
Tasha comes to us from Martha Burns Swim School (where she still
works) teaching swimming for several years. An all-around athlete,
she was a competitve swimmer and gymnast at Hopkins High School.
Tasha has also worked with the YMCA, at two locations, teaching
swimming lessons and working with kids. She is a great teacher,
motivator and communicator with young children.
