Scott D Vanderzell
Since 1994, Vanderzell has been the head coach for the Tonawanda Titans. During his tenure with the Titans, he has helped form the group into one of the premier swim clubs in New York State, illustrated by the fact that the team send the largest number of club’s members to the NY State Meet each season. Annually, the Titans qualified 25 or more swimmers for the Speedo Championships Series and sent numerous swimmer to Junior Nationals in Orlando, FL and USA Junior Nationals. During his years with the Titans, the team has grown from 75 swimmers to one of the largest in the Eastern Zone with over 240 members. Additionally we have had a number of swimmers qualify Olympic trials.
Vanderzell grew up in Hamburg, NY, where he attended Hamburg High School and was a state qualifier for the Hamburg Bulldogs swim team. He attended the University of South Carolina Spartanburg as a Soccer player, and after injury he returned to Buffalo State College where he swam for 3 seasons. He graduated from Buffalo State College with a major in History and a minor in coaching, and he has been coaching swimming for the past 22 years. He began coaching for the Tonawanda Titans in 1994, and he has been Head Coach since 1997. He also began coaching for the University at Buffalo as the Assistant Women's Swimming Coach in 1999, and he served 10 seasons with the Bulls. Scott is currently the Head Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Coach at Canisius College, and he holds a Level 4 ASCA certification. Scott was named Niagara District 2003 Senior Coach of the Year and MAAC 2015 Coach of the Year. He resides in Western New York with his wife Sherri and four children.
Tim M Bennett
Age Group Coordinator
Tim Bennett has been coaching with the Titans since the summer of 1995. He is a Buffalo State College and University of Buffalo graduate. Swimming for Buffalo State, he set school records in the 200, 500, 1000, and 1650 freestyle events. He spent one year as an assistant coach at each of his Alma Maters. Prior to the Titans, Tim was a coach for the North Tonawanda Swim Club and summer clinic. Since joining the Titans, the team has grown from 75 swimmers to one of the largest in the Eastern Zone. Since 1995, the Titans have won several district championships, sent countless swimmers to the Eastern Zone Championships, Super Sectional Meets, Junior National, and Senior National Meets. We have had Zone Champions, National top 16, National Top 10 swimmers, and broken numerous district records. Tim is proud to have been a part of this and plans on the team only doing bigger and better things. Tim, as part of the Titans staff, has been recognized as the Age Group Coach of the Year by the American Swim Coaches Association three times, and believes that the entire staff is why we are one of the best swimming programs in the Eastern Zone. “I am most proud of how many of our swimmers continue to swim past Titans, the ones that return to swim in the summer from college, the others that return to coach after college, and now they are beginning to bring us their kids.”
Coach (SD, L1 )
Samantha grew up in the Town of Tonawanda and graduated from Kenmore East High School in 2009. During her high school career, Sam was a 4 year member of the Kenmore East girls swim team. After graduating from Kenmore East, Sam went on to attend Buffalo State College and earned a bachelors degree in Elementary Education with a concentration in English.
Sam joined the Titans coaching staff in the fall of 2009. Prior to joining Titans she was named pool supervisor at the Aquatic and Fitness Center where she worked for a total of 7 years. Much of Sam's time as a supervisor at the Aquatic and Fitness Center consisted of teaching swim lessons ranging from parent-child lessons, to middle school swimmers.
Currently, in addition to coaching Stroke Development and Level 1 with Titans, Sam now works full-time at Dent Neurologic as a Medical office assistant.
Coach (L7 & L8)
Randall grew up in the City of Tonawanda
and graduated from Tonawanda High School in 2006. He swam for the
Warriors and helped to restart the varsity program there in 2002.
Randall attended Canisius College and graduated with a B.S. in
Management with a minor in Human Resources in
Randall swam for the Division I Golden
Griffins under Coach Scott Vanderzell and was a two time team
captain. At one point, he held both the 200 and 400 IM records and
was part of the 200, 400 and 800 free and 200 and 400 medley relay
records. He swam everything from IM to Freestyle, and was a top-16
finalist in the 200 IM and 100 and 200 free during his time
Randall has previously coached at Kenmore
East High School and Nardin Academy. In addition to coaching Level
7 & 8 at Titans, he works full-time for a healthcare
staffing company and oversees the operation of
the Neumann Catholic Swim League.
Randall beacame a Titans swimmer in 2007
and a Titans coach in 2008.
Joe C Wilkie
Strength and Conditioning Level 7-8
Joe received his M.S. in Health and Human Performance and B.S Physical/Health Education from Canisius College. Joe Currently teaches students personal training at Orleans-Niagara Boces. In addition to his teaching, he has been a working for the Town of Tonawanda as a pool supervisor and a personal trainer since 2006, Stroke Development and level 1 Coach for the Titans, Varsity Soccer and Swimming Coach at North Tonawanda High School, and Varsity Track at Williamsville South High School.
MARISSA A OAKEY
Coach (L3 and L5)
Marissa has been coaching the Titans since summer of 2015, but previously swam for the Titans for 6 years. Before coming to TTSC, Marissa was an assistant coach at the Ken-Ton YMCA for 2 years, teaching the age group swimmers and also teaching swim lessons. She went to Niagara Wheatfield High School and went on to Canisius College as a distance freestyler, where she completed her degree in Health and Wellness and minored in Strength and Conditioning. She currently is pursuing a degree in Massage Therapy at Trocaire College
ANDREA M PARISH
Level 2,3,5 Coach
Andi has been coaching since the fall of 2015, but began her swimming career with the Titans in 2003 at nine years old. Having graduated from North Tonawanda High School in 2011, she competed for six years on varsity for the Lumberjacks. Andi went on to swim breaststroke and IM for Lafayette College in Easton, PA, competing for four years at the Patriot League Championships. She was a co-captain for the Leopards during the 2014-2015 season, and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in biology. Andi gained experience coaching for the Easton Aquatics Club and Penn Jersey Aquatic Club during her time at Lafayette. She will begin the Daemen College Physician Assistant Program in the fall.
Nick J Seredey
Coach Level 4 and 6
Nick has been coaching with the Titans since the fall of 2015. He grew up in the Town of Tonawanda where he graduated from Kenmore East Senior High School in 2011. During his time in high school, he competed four Varsity years for the Kenmore East Swimming and Diving team and two Varsity years for the Kenmore East Volleyball team. During his time in high school swimming, he excelled in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly, 200 free, 200 free relay and 400 free relay. Nick was a two year state qualifier for the Bulldogs swim team, one year captain, two year team MVP, one year Class B champion in two events, one year Section VI Class B MVP, and one year sectional champion in one event. Nick attended Canisius College and earned his B.S. in Physical and Health Education in 2015. He also swam for the Division I Golden Griffins under Coach Scott Vanderzell. During that time, he held one individual team record in the 50 free, three relay records in the 200, 400 free relay, 200 medley relay, and one pool record in the 200 medley relay. He swam sprint freestyle and butterfly and was a top-8 finalist multiple times in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 fly and a top-3 finalist in the 200 medley relay, 400 medley relay and 400 free relay. Since then, Nick has coached the boys swim team at Kenmore East.

Alison has been coaching the Titans since the summer of 2008.
She swam with the Town of Tonawanda Aquettes for 9 years where she
competed nationally with many top ten finishes. She also swam for
Mount St. Mary Academy. She attended Canisius College where she
graduated with a degree in Physical Education and Health. Since
then, Alison has been coaching at Mount St. Mary Academy
where she was the Assistant Coach from 2007-2009 and in 2010 became
the Head Coach. Alison also coaches in the Ken-Ton School District
in both the extramural and modified teams.
Lara A MacDonald
Coach SD/ Level 1
Lara has been coaching with the Town of Tonawanda Titans since spring 2015, working with stoke development and level 1. Previously, Lara swam for the Titans beginning in 2002 and continued until she graduated from Mount St. Mary Academy in 2012. Throughout her high school years, she swam for Mount’s varsity swim team. During this time she was helping the team continually place in All Catholics, and lead the team after being voted captain her senior year.
Today, Lara attends Buffalo state College for Childhood Education/Exceptional Education. She plans on graduating in fall 2016 with her Bachelors, before attending grad school to earn a Master’s Degree in Education. Recently, Lara has also been coaching for Mount St. Mary Academy Varsity Swim Team, acting as the assistant coach throughout the 2015-2016 season.
HALEY A RICE
Coach SD-Level 1
Haley swam for the Titans from 2006 until 2012. During her time on the Titans, she was a 2-year USA Swimming Scholastic All-American and 3-year NCSA Junior National Qualifier. She graduated from Kenmore West Senior High School in 2012, where she was a 5-year varsity swimmer, four-year state qualifier, and led her team as co-captain her senior year. Haley went on to pursue her education and swimming career at Binghamton University, where she specialized in butterfly, for four years. She graduated from SUNY Binghamton in May of 2016 with a B.A. in Psychology and minor in Health and Wellness Studies. Haley also coaches varsity and modified swim teams within the Ken-Ton School District.
CLARE A BATTAGLIA
Coach Level 2
Clare Battaglia is excited to be joining the coaching staff at the Town of Tonawanda Titans. Clare began her swimming career with the Titans at the age of four years old, starting in stroke development and continuing on through to Level 8. She graduated from Williamsville North High School in 2012. During Clare's high school swimming career, she was named team captain, MVP, was a 3-time Section VI champion, and a 4-year state qualifier. Clare went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at Canisius College in 2016. Clare swam backstroke/IM for the Division I Golden Griffins under Coach Scott Vanderzell. She was named a team captain, MVP and Rookie of the Year at Canisius and was a MAAC champion in the 800 Free Relay along with fellow Coach Marissa Oakey. Clare is currently in the Master’s of Occupational Therapy Program at D’Youville College. In addition to being a part of the Titan's coaching staff, Clare is an assistant coach of the Williamsville North girls JV/Varsity swim teams.
Lindsey M Sagasta
Level 4-6 Coach
Lindsey spent the entirety of her USA swimming career representing the Town of Tonawanda Titans, participating in all levels from stroke development to 8. She is a resident of the Town and attended Kenmore West Senior High School as a 6-year varsity athlete for the Blue Devils swim team. Her senior year, she was co-captain with fellow Titans coach Haley Rice. During her time at Kenmore West, she was a four-year state qualifier, NYS champion in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays, 3-time NYS individual event runner up, Section VI champion, and set records at the school, Niagara Frontier League, and Section VI level. She was also named the Tonawanda News Swimmer of the Year in 2010 and 2011. After high school, she swam all distances of freestyle for the Colgate University Raiders in Hamilton, NY, specializing in the 50, 100, and 200. As a student, she double majored in Biology and Environmental Studies, participating in sustainability initiatives>
Marissa N Watroba
Sd/Level 1 Coach
Marissa is very excited to be joining the coaching staff of the Town of Tonawanda Titans this summer. She began swimming in second grade at White Water Swim Club in Niagara Falls and later joined the Titans her freshman year of high school. She graduated from Niagara Wheatfield High School in 2013 and in her 6 years on the varsity swim team she was a four-time state qualifier, section VI champion, holds school, pool, and Niagara Frontier League records, and was a team captain during her junior and senior year. Marissa continued her swimming career under Scott Vanderzell at Canisius College, where she swam breastroke and IM and was a team captain her senior year. She currently holds 5 school records, was a two-time MAAC All Academic Team qualifier, and a MAAC Champion in the 100 & 200 breastroke during the 2016-2017 season. As a student at Canisius she graduated in the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society and was also an active member of Canisius Enactus, a business/entrepreneur based national organization. In addition to coaching stroke development and level 1 at Titans, Marissa currently works full-time as a Marketing Associate at ONY Inc., a biopharmaceutical company here in Buffalo.
Greg J Staebell
Level 3-5 Coach
Greg Staebell began swimming at the age of nine, growing up in Williamsville he attended Williamsville South High School and went on to swim under Scott Vanderzell, where he specialized in backstroke/IM at Canisius College. He is currently a team captain for the Griffs, holds the 200 backstroke school record, a part of the All-MAAC academic team and was named MVP for the 2016-2017 season. Greg is entering his senior year at Canisius where he is studying Finance and Computer Forensics.
REBECCA E ANTHONE
Level 4-6 Coach
Rebecca Anthone began swimming for Titans when she was eight-years-old. She attended and swam for Clarence High School, then decided to continue her swimming career at Canisius College under Scott Vanderzell. She is currently a team captain for the Griffs, is a two time MAAC champion in the 200 freestyle and MAAC champion in the 500 freestyle and 400 and 800 freestyle relays. She holds school records in the 200 and 500 freestyle, is part of the All-MAAC academic team and was named MVP for the 2016-2017 season. Rebecca is entering her senior year studying communications and journalism.
Sarah E DiMayo
Level 3-5 Coach
Sarah DiMayo began competitive swimming at the age of eight, she attended RoyHart high school in Middleport, swimming varsity for 5 years. She was also part of the Titans swim team for 2 years. Under Scott Vanderzell she specialized in breaststroke and IM at Canisius College, where she just finished out her senior year. Sarah graduated Canisius with a bachelors in psychology and will be joining the AmeriCorps ABLE program this September in Buffalo.
