Kamie Christiansen
Head Coach
Email
Head Coach Kamie Christiansen grew up in Utah
where her parents enrolled her in swimming lessons at an early
age. Kamie quickly
progressed though all of the lessons and moved on to the regular
swim team. As a child and
teenager, Kamie swam for a club team – the Bountiful Sharks,
and the Bountiful High School swim team, where she qualified for
state competition each year.
Coach
Kamie also has a background in synchronized swimming and
diving. As a member of the
Bountiful Synchronettes, Kamie’s team qualified for and
competed in the Junior Olympics (AAU) in synchronized
swimming. Swimming has always
been an important part of Kamie’s life, and she loves to pass
on that enjoyment to the athletes she coaches. In 1999, Kamie
formed the Tornadoes, which was initially a non-USA team, that
practiced at Club Green Meadows.
In 2003,
Kamie oversaw the transition of the Tornadoes into a USA Swimming
recognized team.
Coach
Kamie is an American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) certified
level two coach.
She has
also completed the educational component for level-three
certification.
The
Christiansen family has three children who have or are currently
swimming on the Tornadoes Swim Team. Kamie strongly
believes that swimming is a great family sport; you often find the
entire Christiansen family involved: mom coaching, kids racing and
dad timing!

Coach Jon grew
up in Portland, Oregon and began taking swimming lessons at the
Northeast Portland YMCA when he was seven or eight years
old. At age eleven,
Jon’s parents signed him up for the YMCA swim team as a way
to channel his energy and meet new friends. As a 13 year-old,
Jon received the team’s Most Improved Swimmer award and has
many great memories of swimming for the YMCA. Jon swam for Benson
High School for four years and was the team’s captain as a
senior. In college, he
played water polo for two years at Portland State. Jon’s coaching
experience began while he was still in high school; he assisted his
high school coach while he was still on the team. After that, Jon
taught swimming lessons for three years for Portland Parks and
Recreation. Jon has been
coaching the Tornadoes for the last seven years when his daughters
joined the team.
During
the day, Jon works full time as a chemist in research and
development for Intel.
Jon is
also swimming on, and coaching the new Tornadoes Masters’
Team, which he started.
Jon and
his wife, Tiffany, are very busy with their three girls, who are
all on the Tornadoes Swim Team.

Coach Dan
is originally from Seattle, where he took swimming
lessons for many summers before becoming a competitive swimmer in
the Seattle Summer Swim League at age eleven. He enjoyed
competition so much that he decided to join a USA Swimming
recognized club team during the winter. Dan swam at Cascade Swim
Club and Swim Seattle over the next several years, as well as four
years at Seattle Prep (’92 grad). In college, Coach Dan
decided to try a different sport and rowed for the Husky
Men’s Crew for four years at UW. This experience led to a
degree in history in 1997, and he also began swim coaching over the
summers during this time. Dan coached his old summer team at View
Ridge Pool in Seattle for six years and later coached for two years
at Seattle Prep.
In 2006
Dan completed his teaching certificate; he currently works in
special education at Mountain View High School, and is also an
assistant coach in the Evergreen School District’s
boys’ swimming program.
