Head Coach


Carolyn Ackerley

Carolyn has been a coach for BISC since 2001, and head coach since 2011.  Carolyn was a four year collegiate swimmer at Arizona State University where she earned  All American status and was honored to be team captain. She graduated from Arizona State with a degree in English, a post baccalaureate degree in Education, and a minor in PE
. She coaches the senior group and senior age groups for BISC with athletes who have reached US Senior National level meets.  Carolyn also works to develop swim camps for PNS, to improve relations amoung athletes in our LSC so that they might encourage eachother toward greater achievement.

"Leilani Tonsmann"

Leilani currently assists with our intermediate groups. Teaching children in and out of the pool is her passion. Along with coaching BISC swimmers(2009) she also works as a parks department swim instructor and Masters Coach. She holds a BA in Education from Arizona State where she swam competitively from 1984-87.  After graduating she taught elementary school for 8 years and concurrently obtained her MA in Education from CWU. She has previously coached summer league swimmers in Arizona and Washington and has obtained her ASCA Level 2 status as a coach. She is available for private lesson instruction through the aquatic center Parks program.



Assistant Coach


Kate grew up on Bainbridge Island and swam for the Bangor Swim Team starting at the age 6 before joining BISC.  She swam for BHS Girls Swim Team and was one of the first to go to the Washington State Championships all four years.  Since early 2010, Kate has been helping out with BISC practices and dryland workouts.  Additionally, she has been coaching SPLASH, a pre-swim team program through the parks department.  Her love for the water continues today as she enjoys swimming and competing as a member of the Bainbridge Aquatic Masters Swim Team.  She is a certified USA Swimming Coach, ASCA, PNA and USMS member.
