 Marilyn GrindrodHead Coach, Senior and Masters CoachEmail
The
Senior Coach: The senior coach concentrates on
"Open Age Group" swimmers with well developed work ethics and
exceptional swimming ability.
COACH Marilyn, has been with OAC since 1996. Born
and raised in Monroe, New York. Lived in Dunoon Scotland, Essex
Connecticut, and currently resides in Hansville, Washington,
following her husband’s career while he was serving in the
Navy.
Marilyn has trained many state swimmers and divers, who have
received scholarships to various schools in and around this area.
While coaching for NK high school, she began a feeder program for
swimming and also springboard diving. She managed Naval Base Kitsap
swimming pools and coached Bangor Tridents Swimming and Diving
teams. Marilyn, had stopped coaching for a few years, getting
involved with NK Sailing Team, and FC Kitsap Soccer before she was
sought after to coach the Novice level for OAC.
Marilyn swam competitively (AAU) for two years, attended Orange
County Community College on an athletic scholarship, transferred to
Southern Connecticut State College graduating in 1977 with a BA
degree in Physical Education, with a minor in Fine Arts. Upon
moving to Poulsbo, she began swimming Masters, and coaching
swimming and diving for North Kitsap School District. Marilyn is
very involved with the American Red Cross as an Instructor, and
Instructor Trainer in WSI, Lifeguard Training, and CPR/First Aid.
She is an advocate for Water Safety and continues to teach these
classes out in the community. Marilyn has two married daughters who
swam competitively when they were younger. Jamie is a High School
History teacher and Soccer coach in Anchorage, Alaska. Teressa is a
registered nurse currently working in Silverdale at Harrison
Hospital.
Marilyn is a 2008 recipient of the prestigous Kerry L. Obrien
Master’s Coaching Award.
 Amy MeyerAge Group CoachEmail
Coach Amy grew up in Seattle, participating in a wide variety of
sports and academic/ music programs. She swam competitively at
Garfield High and for two Seattle swim clubs. Due to injuries
sustained while swimming she switched sports in college, rowing
crew for the University of Washington where she stroked the varsity
4+ and 8+ at Pac 10’s and Head of the Charles.
Coach Amy’s aquatic background includes 7 years working for
the Seattle Parks’ Dept. as both a life guard & Beach
Manager, where she particularly enjoyed teaching swim lessons to
children & adults. She later extended her emergency medical
experience by becoming a member of the Alpental Ski Patrol, where
she actively volunteered for 8 years. She has been involved with
OAC for the past 5 years, and has loved coaching both Entry and
Novice groups. She utilizes her Physical Therapy & elementary
school teaching background in her daily coaching, and is currently
obtaining her Level 2 ASCA certificate. Coach Amy believes that
fast swimming starts with proper technique, focus and a
determination to try. She stresses safety and sportsmanship while
encouraging her swimmers to challenge themselves daily. Each child
is a unique gift, and each will learn at his or her own pace- she
values tenderness and understanding of young swimmer’s needs,
setting the building blocks in place so swimmers can move on up the
OAC ladder to higher swim levels.
Coach Amy lives with her business partner and husband, Derek, and
their 6 kids, 2 kittens, dog & too many chickens to count. She
loves home schooling, gardening, cooking, knitting, skiing, biking
and hiking/camping, and is an avid reader- when not at the pool!
She looks forward to joining masters swimming in the future when
time permits.
 Megan GimaEntry/Novice coachEmail
Coach Megan was born and raised in
Indiana. She attended Purdue University for her undergraduate
education in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. After graduating
she made the move to Auburn, Alabama where she obtained her masters
degree in Fisheries and Allied Aquaculture from Auburn
University. She was married in 2008, graduated and landed a
great job in Seabeck with the University of Washington as assistant
hatchery manager at the Big Beef Creek Field Station.
Megan started swimming
competitively in the 5th grade with a small swim club in
Indiana. This small club seeded her love for swimming and being a
part of a swim team. She continued swimming on the school’s
swim team until she graduated high school. She has taught swim
lessons to beginning swimmers, ages 4 to 12. “ It is a great
feeling to watch a child you coach, enjoying the sport, learning
and improving their stroke technique.”
Megan is looking forward to being a part of this
wonderful club and team. She is excited to facilitate swimmers
to possess the desire to do their best, set goals and to always
enjoy this fantastic sport.

cOACh Mer comes to OAC with an extensive aquatic background that
includes teaching and coaching of all ages. She believes that the
basics is the foundation for the complex and therefore drills are
very important building blocks for a successful swimming career.
She encourages parent involvement in the form of questions,
comments and suggestions and looks forward to a rewarding swim
season for everyone.
