Coach Rodney has
participated in and had leadership roles in aquatics since the age
of six. His coaching career began as an Assistant Coach in 2002
with the Lancer Age Group Swim Team at California Baptist
University . From 2005 to 2007 Rodney served as the Head Assistant
Coach for a team of over 150 swimmers. He also had the honor of
supervisor and mentoring four coaches. During 2005-2007 swim
seasons, Rodney also was the Graduate Assistant Coach for
California Baptist University college athletes. Rodney personally
coached a group of men and women athletes to the All-American
level. This ranking consists of finishing in the top three in
individual events. The team as a whole achieved National
Championships status.
During the 2005-2006 school years Rodney
became the Varsity Swim Coach for Corona High School . During that
season, Rodney played an essential and integral part in the
men’s team becoming League Champions. In addition, many of
his athletes placed in the Top 16 of California Interscholastic
Federation (CIF). From 2006 to present, Coach Rodney served as the
Varsity Swim Coach at Santiago High School . Rodney again, brought
his athletes to League Championships each and every season that he
was part of the coaching staff. Rodney has played a coaching role
in bringing numerous Top 16 and Top 8 finishers as California
Interscholastic Federation (CIF).
He joined Riverside Aquatics Association
in the spring of 2007. During this time he has had the opportunity
to build relationships and improve swimmers skills with athletes
from Squad 1 to the Masters level. He worked directly with the Head
Coach in designing and implementing team goals, team training and a
vision for the future.
As a swimmer Coach Rodney was a
Scholarship athlete at California Baptist University . During his
time there he was an 8 time All-American, he served as team captain
both his junior and senior year. He was also awarded the highly
prestigious “Lancer of the Year” and “NAIA
Champions of Character” awards his senior year. He has a
Degree in Psychology and has been in graduate school working
towards a Teaching Credential and Masters in Physical Education and
Kinesiology.

Val Banaga

Originally Val is from Moldova, (former USSR or
Russia) where he swam for the National Team and was a champion
in the backstroke. His coaching career began in Belarus in
1970 after graduating Moldova State University with a B.S. in
coaching. From 1971 until 1986 Val coached age group swimmers
at the Youth Olympic Swimming School and Olympic Team in Kishinev,
Moldova. He worked with various levels of swimmers on the
team. During this time Val also served as a Head Coach of the
National Youth Swimming Team. In 1988 he graduated Moscow
Physical Education Academy in Russia with the Master degree in
Physical Education and Sport Training. From 1986 to 1988 he
was an Assistant Head Coach for the Russian (Soviet Union)
Olympic Swim Team. Val was instrumental in
preparing the team for the Olympic Games of 1988 in Seoul
(Korea). He spent many years in Moscow working with and
expanding his knowledge with world famous coaches and swimmers. Val
looks at this time of his career as an unforgettable and great
experience.
Val served as Head
Coach of Moldova National Olympic Swim Team for eight years.
During these years he organized managerial work
of the National Olympic Team and was a private coach
for six Olympians helping to prepare them for the Olympic
Games of 1992 held in Barcelona (Spain). It was during this time
that Y. Bashcatov (800 free relay), received a Silver
Medal. During the 1996 games in Atlanta, Val was instrumental
in helping Mariniuk become a finalist in the 400 Individual
Medley. He also was part of the 2000 Sydney (Australia)
games.
Val arrived in the
United States in 2005 and worked as an Assistant Head
Coach for the Fountain Valley Summer league swim team as well at
Circle City Aquatics. Val is pleased to be a part of Riverside
Aquatics and looks forward to sharing his coaching experience with
our swimmers.

Lauri A Jones

Lauri has been a competitive swimmer since the
age of 10. Originally from Wisconsin she was a
3 year captain of her high school swim team, holding school records
in backstroke and relays. Upon graduation she attended the
University of Wisconsin at
Whitewater, where she was co-captain for 2 years, and school
record holder in 100 yard breaststroke, 200 yard breaststroke,
medley, and free relay. In 1985 Lauri was a qualifier for the
NCAA National Championships in the 100 yard breaststroke.
For 10 years Lauri taught and was head
instructor for the Fort Atkinson
Department of Recreation. Lauri’s coaching
background includes 7 years coaching in USS/USA swimming in WI,
2 years in Illinios, and 2 years as a graduate assistant at
the University of
Wisconsin. Lauri graduated from the University of Wisconsin
with a major in Social Work and minors in psychology/coaching.
Lauri is excited to be a part of RAA and help
children to set and reach their goals as they enjoy competition and
fitness through swimming!

Brad A Terwilliger

Brad Terwilliger is a recent graduate of
California Baptist University where he swam for four years. Brad
graduated in the Spring of 2009 with a Bachelor of
Science in Business Administration.
Brad grew up in
Yucaipa, California and graduated in from Yucaipa High School in
2005. He has been a competitive swimmer since the age of 8. and
began his swim career with Yucaipa Swim Team. Brad also swam
for the Redlands Swim Team.
During his college
career Brad has accumulated a total of twelve national titles and
has been a fifteen time All-American. Brad hopes to become a
police officer and continue to coach competative
swimming.

Bryan W Haile

Bryan has been involved in
competitive swimming since the age of seven. He was a four
time MVP while attending Thomas Downey High School in Modesto,
California. During his college career at California Baptist
University, Bryan’s accomplishments in the sport of
swimming include being a four time Central California Conference
Champion (100 Breast), two time Champion at the 2008 PCSC
Invitational Pentathlon and record holder (100 Breast), NAIA
(National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) record holder
in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke in 2009.
RAA has the wonderful opportunity
of having young swimmers learn from the wealth of aquatic knowledge
that Coach Bryan brings to the team. He began his coaching career
with our Summer League Program and now serves as a year round coach
at our satellite location at Martin Luther King High
School.
