Coach Brandon Allenstein (Coach BJ) This is the start of my 18th year coaching Club swimming. I have worked with all levels of kids from beginner to Olympic Trial qualifiers. I was an elite age group swimmer with several top times at the national, state and club (DADS) levels. I graduated from Churchill HS in 1995 and from UTSA in 2013 (Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with Teacher Certification). I have a wonderful and loving family with my wife, Laurel, and 2 sons, Logan (3 1⁄2) and Geoffrey (3 months). Family is very important in my life and swimming is part of my family.

Lacy was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana. She began swimming competitively at the age of six and did not stop until she graduated college. At the age of 6, she began swimming under the tutelage of Brian Counsilman, Doc Counsilman's son. She swam competitively for 12 years in club and lettered varsity all four years in high school. Upon graduation she received a college scholarship to swim NCAA Division I at IUPUI. She graduated college with a bachelor's degree in History then married her best friend and began a new chapter in her life. She began her coaching career with Aviano Seadragons while living in Italy. She was the lead coach for the elite 13 to 18 year olds leading them with several top five finishes at USAFE championships. After moving to Montana in 2011, she began coaching with Falls Aquatic Swim Team working mainly with 10 and under. This is where she quickly learned what a joy and passion she had coaching and watching the development with that age group. In 2015, she moved to San Antonio, where she began coaching with AAAA on the Green level of the program and running the AquaJets! for aspiring club swimmers. She currently is training for an Ironman in April 2017 and finished her second master's in History.

Melissa “Missy” Bahr is a native of Orem, Utah. She and her husband and four cute children- Kaylee, Lucas and Sydney and Wesley moved to the San Antonio area in the spring of 2014. She attended Mountain View High and lettered in swimming all four years of her high school career. Her favorite swim stroke is the butterfly- she>Missy started her coaching career in 2000 and coached swim teams with Orem Timpanogos Aquatics Club, Mountain View High School, Timpanogos High School, and the City of Orem. She is very excited to be apart of the Northside Alamo Area Aquatics Association Swim Team. She is certified through United States Swimming (USS), American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), American Sports Education Program (ASEP), and Red Cross (first aid, CPR, and coaches’ safety). Missy loves swimming and working with kids. She believes there is nothing better than helping swimmers set and achieve their goals. There is so much our swimmers can learn about life through swimming!

Coach Jeremy Block literally grew up at the George Block Aquatics Center and has been around swimming his entire life. He split his younger athletic endeavors between swimming, basketball, and soccer; finally committing to year-round swimming in middle school. Coach Block attended Holmes High School where he swam and played water polo for four years, eventually earning an all-district water polo award and the school records in the 100 and 200 backstroke as well as part of the 200 freestyle relay. After graduating from Holmes high school, Coach Block attended the University of Redlands where he swam for four years and was part of seven consecutive SCIAC conference titles won by the Redlands men's swimming and diving team. After graduating from Redlands with a major in history and a minor in anthropology, Coach Block immediately returned to San Antonio with the goal of returning to his home pool to turn what was then a very novice coaching hobby into a career. Coach Block is currently working in the office at the George Block Aquatics Center and is seeking a Masters Degree in International Sport Coaching with an emphasis in swimming from the University of The Incarnate Word.

Ana R Carey
Asst Coach Elite and Coach, 1604
Coach Ana Carey is a native of El Paso, Texas. She started swimming there at age 5 and continued through high school with legendary El Paso coach, Leo Cancellare, and later at North Texas State University.
Coach Carey is a Registered Dietician and currently consults at St. Mary’s University. She has three children that participate on the team at the NISD Natatorium, Justin, Claudia and Diego.

Justin Joaquin Carey
Justin Carey is a native of San Antonio and a familiar face on the pool deck. Justin began swimming 10 years ago with Misty Oaks Summer League team then joined AAAA soon thereafter.
His passion in swimming has evolved to a coaching level that he thoroughly enjoys and is now helping the developmental swimmers in our program advance in the sport. He is a homeschool graduate that is attending Vista Community College while continuing to train with the Elite group of our team. He is looking forward to college level swimming in the near future. He is a an avid outdoorsman that loves anything that is not in-doors. He especially enjoys mountain biking, trail building, fishing, hunting and camping with his family and friends. Justin has developed into a well rounded swimmer and coach under the tutelage of Coach Derek Howorth and loves that he can help form the next generation of swimmers.
Tre started coaching in the summer of 2016 for a summer league team. Once summer ended he was thankfully asked if he’d like to coach with Alamo Area Aquatics Association. He jumped at the opportunity to not only continue working, but to give back to the Alamo Area program and the coaches that helped him before, during and after his 4 painfully good years of being a part of the Oliver Wendell Holmes Varsity Swim team. Now, his goal is to coach each swimmer with the knowledge and experience of his history and the coaches that helped him achieve it.

Coach Nyssa Counts is a Kurt Swanson protégé, swimming under his tutelage throughout her high school career. During that same time, she swam for Holmes as a consistent Regional competitor.
She began her coaching career as a Summer League assistant coach for Gabriel Best at Northchase and is currently an Instructional Assistant with the Northside ISD as well as Head Coach for the Woods of Shavano Summer League Team.

Head Coach, Elite, 1604
Coach Derek Howorthjoined NISD Aquatics in the fall of 2006 as the Head Coach of the George Block Aquatics Center. He grew up in San Antonio where he swam with AAAA and Jay High School. While at Jay he was a UIL State medalist in what many say was the greatest race in the history of Texas High School Swimming (1992 Boys' 200IM), a many time All-American and current record holder at Jay.
Coach Howorth continued his swimming career at the University of Texas where he was a 6-time All-American, US Olympic Trials Qualifier, and a member of the UT National Championship Team in 1996. While at Texas he earned his degree in Applied Learning and Development/Sport Management.
After college, Derek began coaching as the Head Coach of the Florida Aquatic Swim Club (the club team for the University of Florida). From there he moved to the Highlander Aquatic Club in Orlando, before returning home to Texas as the Associate Head Coach of the famed Cy-Fair Swim Club (a.k.a. The Fleet).
During his time coaching Derek has developed over 20, National Top 16 swimmers, served the Texas Age Group Swimming Committee (Chair), All-Star Committee (Chair), been named Gulf Swimming Age Group Coach of the Year in 2005 & 2006, and named TSA and ASCA Age Group Coach of the Year in 2006. Coach Howorth has also had the opportunity to share his swimming and coaching experiences in Kenya (2010), Dubai (2012) and The ASCA World Clinic (2013).
Coach Howorth enjoys coaching because it allows him to help kids learn life lessons through the sport of swimming.
During his free time Derek enjoys traveling, cooking, cycling, being outdoors (when it’s not too hot) and spending time with his wife, Angela, whom he married in October of 2009.

Coach Burak started to swim at an early age and swam competitively for 13 years. He has been coaching since 2001 and he got his first coach certification from Turkish Swimming Federation in that time. First, he worked with different swimming clubs in Turkey such as Galatasaray Swimming Club and Istanbul Swimming Specialization Club where he prepared many swimmers for Turkish Junior Nationals. In 2011 he decided to move to Clifton, New Jersey where he worked with different U.S.A. Swimming clubs such as Clifton Sea Hawks, Wave Runners and Bergen Sharks. During that time he prepared many swimmers for Junior Nationals. Finally, he moved to San Antonio, Texas in 2016 and he started to work with North Side A. A. A. A. Swimming Club.
Meriem Talbi Kebbab
Coach Meriem Talbi Kebbab was born and raised in
Algeria; She starts swimming at the age of 8 years old and became
an Algerian Champion in 200 Breastroke. At the age of 24 years old
Meriem got her Bachelor degree in Environmental Science. In 2014,
she came to San Antonio with her husband Nabil (an Olympic swimmer)
to start a new life in the US. Meriem holds safety certifications
and coaching licenses from the American Red Cross, USA Swimming and
the American Swim Coaches Association. She also speaks French,
Arabic, and English fluently. Meriem is both an instructor for
SwimAmerica and an AAAA coach and works hard to help the kids to
improve and develop themselves.

Nabil Kebbab was born and raised in Algeria, and has extensive experience in the swimming world as a professional swimmer and coach. He began swimming at 7 years old, and joined the Algerian national team at 17 years old. At 18 years old, Nabil moved to France to join Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille. As part of Cercle des Nageurs de Marseille and the Algerian national team, Nabil has traveled the world training and competing in the sport of swimming. His most notable achievements include participation in the London and the Beijing Olympic Games, a 5th place finish in the 100m Freestyle at the 2007 World Championships, and 4 gold medals at the African Championships. He first came to San Antonio to train with AAAA in 2004, and when he made the decision to retire from professional swimming, he came back to San Antonio with his wife Meriem (also a swimmer) to begin his full-time coaching career. Nabil holds safety certifications and coaching licenses from the American Red Cross, USA Swimming, Algerian Swimming Federation, University of Marseille, the French National Safety and Rescue Aquatic, and the American Swim Coaches Association. In addition to his swimming and coaching credentials, Nabil is fluent in French, Arabic, and English. He brings a wealth of experience to AAAA and enthusiastically shares his experience to help develop young athletes.
ASCA Certification - Level 3
Coach Alyssa Martinez was a AAAA swimmer since she was eight years old participating in the age group program at the 410 pool and high school at the 1604 pool. She was a varsity swimmer for both Stevens High School & Brennan High School where she was a district finalist all four years, a regional finalist for two years and a 2012 4A State qualifier in the 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke and the 200 medley relay. In summer 2009, she started off as a swim instructor for Swim America, and really enjoyed teaching kids how to swim and then became a Westcreek summer league swim team assistant coach. She is now excited to be a club coach at the pool she started at and is excited to teach kids to love swimming as much as she does. On top of coaching, she is currently a full-time student at the University of the Incarnate Word as a pre-nursing student.

Yesenia Pena is an RGV native where she swam varsity for her high school, and after graduating she began to attend the University of Texas- Pan American. She graduated in December 2014 with a Bachelors of Science. Simultaneously, she commissioned as a U.S. Army officer from the ROTC program.
Currently, she is an assistant coach for AAAA and tutors for the South San Antonio ISD. She is also a college student, who is pursuing another college degree as a health professional and continues to serve in the military. She enjoys exercising, DIY projects, and reading.
Coach Drew Rodriguez grew up at Medina Lake and started his life in the water skiing, knee boarding, and bare footing around the age of five. Later on as he grew to be braver in the water he enjoyed cliff jumping and scuba diving where he took the opportunity to scuba dive inside Jacob’s Well. He attended John Jay High School where he joined the swim team and swam competitively for his first and only season. He absolutely enjoyed the physical and mental challenges of the sport. He still loves to be athletic and enjoys playing many other sports when he has the chance. Coach Drew started coaching at the George Block Aquatic Center in 2002.
Coach Lorna Walters recently returned to coach at Northside where she started her coaching career.
In 2002 Coach Walters began as a Swim America Instructor. In the fall of the same year she was hired by Laura Cox as the Girls Age Group Coach.
In the summer of 2004 Coach Walters moved to Marina, California where she was the Head Age Group Coach and Swim Lessons Coordinator for the Seaside Dolphins, under head coach Ken Fittro. In 2006 Coach Fittro added high coaching to Coach Walters’ assignment as the Seaside High School Junior Varsity Coach.
In December 2006 Coach Walters became the Head Age Group Coach for Sea Devils Swimming under Coach Victor Abrahaminian in Burke, Virginia.
Coach Walters returned to Northside as the Senior Assistant Coach in 2008.
She is now the coach for the HS Gold Team.
ASCA Certification – Level 2
Originally hailing from China, Coach Zhao has over 10 years of competitive swimming experience. Coach Zhao excelled in competition, eventually earning herself a place on the Beijing Professional Swim Team. In addition to her swimming experience, Coach Zhao also has over 8 years of coaching experience.
Coach Zhao recently received her Masters degree in Kinesiology from UTSA.
