Gordy Smith
Head Coach
Coach Smith has dedicated himself to San Jose Aquatics since 1981. As an athlete, he trained with the best the US can offer. A George Haines product for many years, Gordy attended University of Pacific where he trained under Coach Bill Rose and later Gordon Collet. Gordy was both a high school and Division I All American in swimming and led the Nation in penalty throws blocked as an NCAA standout goalie. Gordy is one of two Pacific Swimming coaches to twice win the Age Group Coach of the Year award. As an age group coach, he has trained dozens of Top 16 athletes some who reached Junior and Senior National standards while in his age group training sessions. Gordy has lead young swim stars to Pacific and National Age Group records, won Far Western and local titles, and was selected as Western Zone All-Star Head Coach leading Pacific LSC swimmers to the title. Gordy’s experience as an athlete, physical education teacher, MS degree in Human Performance and experience coaching swimming and water polo provide SJA with an invaluable resource.
