Coach Wright is an ASCA level 4 coach with over 20 years of experience in competitive swimming and coaching. Coach Wright is in his second year with SMAC and has lead the team to the following accomplishments during his first year with the program. 
 

• SMAC was awarded Bronze Medal Status by USA swimming for 2012.
• SMAC has won both Men's and Women's Small Team Age Group State Titles at both Short Course and Long Course Championship meets. 
• 38 Team Records Set
• 10 Individual State Records and 1 Relay State Record set
• 11 Age Group Champions Meet Records set
• Qualified a Swimmer for the 2012 Olympic Team Trials
• Qualified 7 swimmers for the USA National Open Water Olympic Trials. 
• FINA World Ranked Top-100 Swimmer
• One Swimmer Qualified for USA Senior Nationals in multiple events
• 2 Swimmers Qualified for USA Junior Nationals that resulted in multiple Finals swims
• Swimmers have been selected to attend the USA National Select Camp, National Diversity Camp, and Eastern Zone Select Camp
• 11 USA Swimming National Top-10 Swims including a #1 and two #2 ranked times
• 71 VA Top-10 swims including 22 #1 ranked swims and 9 #2 ranked swims
• 14 Individual State Champions and 1 State Champion Relay
• 2 YMCA All-Americans in Multiple Events
• 8 YMCA National Qualifiers 
• 8 Swimmers Qualified for the VA High School State Championship
• 5 Swimmers Qualified for the Easter Zone Age Group Championship
• Multiple VA Senior and Age Group Championship Qualifiers

Wright comes to us from Georgetown University , where he was an assistant, volunteer coach. He is a former Director of Competitive Swimming and Head Coach at the Coffman YMCA in Ohio where he was the teams first full-time Head Coach. He is also a former Assistant Head Coach at the FISH, a Gold Medal USA Swim Club, where he help lead the FISH to a Sectional Men's Team Title while assisting Olympic Coach Ray Benecki with the 2008 Olympic birth of World Record Holder Kate Ziegler.  For Wright's accomplishments in 2011 he was selected as an Eastern Zone Select Camp Assistant Coach. 

Stephanie Neal

Age Group Coach

Coach Stephanie Neal will be joining the SMAC staff this year as the new Age Group 1 assistant coach and Age Group 2 head coach. Stephanie swam with SMAC for 10 years as a youth, and went on to swim under scholarship at Cumberland College for 2 years before retiring due to a shoulder injury. She also volunteered as an assistant coach for both SMAC and Amberjax for a total of 3 years in high school, working closely with the advanced 8-12 year old swimmers. Stephanie re-entered the swimming world this spring when she accepted the head coaching position for Amberjax summer team. After a great season, she has decided to pursue her love of swimming and working with young swimmers at the USS level. Stephanie specializes in working with 12 and under swimmers on stroke technique, racing technique and endurance and is excited to work with such an amazing group of young swimmers. She resides in Stuarts Draft, VA with her husband Derrick and one year old daughter Aislynn.
