Swimming Background: I started swimming my freshmen year of high school for the Watertown Goslings and continued through my freshman year of college at UW-La Crosse. I also swam for the YMCA at Pabst Farms while competing in High School.

Favorite Event: 200 and 100 Freestyle, 100 Fly

Favorite Part About Coaching: My favorite part about coaching is being able to watch swimmers achieve their goals and be a part of the experience with them. I have already made so many great memories and can't wait to make more.

In my spare time I enjoy running and occaisionally swimming as well as getting out to fly fish around the area.

I started coaching in 1989.  I took a break from 2003-2013.

Swimming Background:

I started YMCA & Club competitive swimming when I was 5 years old.  I continued swimming through high school.  I took a break during college then continued competitive swimming with the Master’s programs.

Favorite Swimming Event:

200 IM

Favorite part about coaching:

Watching swimmers achieve their goals.

What you like to do in spare time?:

 Kayaking, reading and spending time with my grandchildren

What do do in spare time?
-Teach math at Onalaska High School
-Hike, bike, run, camp... anything outdoors.

Favorite Part About Coaching: Chris loves working with children and building relationships with them. She also finds joy helping them accomplish new skills and improving

Years coaching swimming: Coaching with thw Wave Since 2010

Swimming Background: My swimming background includes all levels of competition, starting at the age of 5 for my local city team all the way through swimming for UW-La Crosse. 

Event: My favorite events were the 100 Fly, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 IM, and the 200 Breaststroke

Favorite part about coaching: My favorite part of coaching is seeing a swimmer understand and implement the stroke techniques that we've been working on throughout practices. 

What you like to do in spare time: I love to run, lift weights, read, watch the Badgers, Brewers, Bucks and Packers, and get out with my German Shepherd, Dierks.

I have been swimming competitively since I was 14. I swam for my high school swim team and trained at my local YMCA with an off-season training group all throughout high school.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

 In my spare time I love to be outdoors. I especially enjoy hiking, biking and running. I also enjoy reading

I have been coaching swimming since 2015.

Swimming Background:

I have been around the pool since age 8, starting on my hometown club team followed by my high school team. I swam my freshman year at UW-L, and after a year off, realized I missed being around the sport – so I joined the WAVE as a coach!

Favorite swimming event:

200 Butterfly

Favorite part about coaching:

I love coaching and seeing the kids be so genuinely excited to be at swimming (especially the young groups, who are sometimes bouncing off the walls to start practice).

What you like to do in your spare time:

Run, hike, read, and spend time with friends and family.

How long have you been coaching swimming?: I've been coaching since 2015.

Swimming background: I joined my high school swim team as a freshman in without any prior experience. I swam throughout high school, both club (South Metro Storm) and my school team (Shakopee High School), as well as my freshman year at UW-L. 

Favorite swimming event: 100 fly or 200 fly

Favorite part about coaching: The best part about coaching for me is when the swimmer achieves their goal and realizes their own potential. They may have never thought they could go that fast or finish that race, but when they beat their own doubts, it's priceless. 

What do you like to do in your spare time? I enjoy being outdoors, hanging out with my friends, reading a good mystery novel or occasionally watching a new Netflix series

How long have you been coaching swimming? Since 2014

Swimming Background: I started swimming competitively when I was 12 for my Junior High swim team. I fell in love with the sport and continued to swim for my junior high and then my high school as well as joining SPDY where I swam for six years.

Favorite Swimming Event: 500 Freestyle

Favorite Part About Coaching: I really like getting to know the kids as swimmers and people and just figuring out what each kid brings to the team.

What do you like to do in your spare time? I don't have much spare time between nursing school, work and coaching, but I do like to watch movies, read, and do makeup.

Years Coaching: since 2002

Swimming Background:    I started swimming for the Tomahawk Swim Club (TSC) when I was 8yrs old and swam for the club until I was 17. I swam all four years for Tomahawk High School, and was a varsity letter swimmer. I started coaching with TSC when I was 16. While in college at UW- Whitewater, I coached for the J-Hawk Aquatic Club for 4 ½ years. I was the Head Coach of the Harrison Area YMCA Swim Team (HAYST) for 4 years in West Virginia. While there I was also selected as a Southern Zone coach, once as an assistant coach and the next year as the head coach. I was also one of the head coaches for the first West Virginia AAU Junior Olympic Swim Team. I have coaching with the La Crosse YMCA Waves for the last two years.

Favorite Events: 100 Breast, 500 Free and 1000 Free

Favorite part about coaching: Being able to pass on my love of the sport and knowledge to new swimmers. Also, when a swimmer finally clicks with a skill they have been working hard to learn.

In my spare time:   I like to go paddle boarding, kayaking and fishing. I took a paddle board boot camp class over the summer and loved it as well. I try to take my dog Duke for walks/ runs as much as possible. I love spending as much time as possible with my niece.

How long have you been coaching?

I started coaching the team that I grew up on this past summer in Watertown, WI. This is my first time coaching at a YMCA.

Swimming Background:

I started swimming when I was 10 years old on the Watertown Aquatic Team (WAT) and later on my high school team. When I turned 18 I joined the WAT coaching staff.

Favorite Event:

I enjoy swimming longer distances and my favorite stroke is backstroke. In high school, I swam the 500 freestyle and 100 backstroke at almost every meet!

Favorite Thing about coaching swimming:

I love coaching because I get to see the swimmers grow not only individually, but also as a team.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I love to swim, but aside from that, I enjoy camping, kayaking, watching movies, and spending time with my family.

How long have been you coaching swimming?

This is my first time coaching swim, but I have been a swim instructor for all levels for 6 years now and am excited to start coaching for the YMCA Wave. 

Swimming Background:

I first started swimming at the age of 4 because I wanted to keep up with my two older brothers.  I soon fell in love with the sport, I started swimming competitively when I was 6 and continued all the way throughout high school. I swam for the Fort Atkinson Swim Team, also known as F.A.S.T., until I was a Sophomore in high school, and competed all four years on the Fort Atkinson High School swim team.

Favorite Swimming Event: 100 Backstroke

Favorite part about coaching: 

My favorite part about coaching is getting to work with kids and share my knowledge of the sport that I love with them.  

What you like to do in spare time?

When I have spare time, I like to spend it mountain biking, reading, or simply just hanging out with my friends.

Jennifer N. Loepfe

Novice & Junior Coach


Jennifer swam for the La Crosse YMCA swim team for 11 years and the Lawrence University Swim Team for four. Her favorite events are the 100 and 200 butterfly. She also coached for the Wave for five years before leaving for college. She is excited to be back and will be primarily working with the Novice and Junior age groups.

Swimming Background: I've been swimming for the Wave since I was 7 years old and this is my 2nd year coaching the Novice group.  

Favorite Stroke: Freestyle and backstroke.

Favorite part about coaching: I love encouraging the kids to do their best and have fun while working hard to achieve their goals. 

What you like to do in spare time: I love swimming, music (I play the harp and piano), reading, and spending time with my family and friends.
