Matt is the operations director and also leads Age Group 2 at the WSAC.  Matt has been coaching at the WSAC since 1997 and is starting his 17th season with Schroeder.

Anderson, 53, is in his 29th year of coaching and 22nd at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.  Since 1985, Anderson has coached a Paralympian, an USA Olympic Team Triathlete, 18 Olympic Trials qualifiers, and two Olympic Trials finalists, a Junior World Championship Team Member, 16 Big Ten and Big Eight Conference Champions, four US Open Champions, 38 USA National Finalists, two USA National Championship Relays, five USA National Junior Team Members, two USA National Team Members, two Junior National Champions to six Junior National records, and 12 National YMCA Champions.  Anderson has been a member of the USA National Team and Junior Team Coaching Staff,  Head Coach of the Southern Zone Select Camp, named YMCA National Coach of the year in 1996 and again in 2007 and 2013, and led the Schroeder YMCA Swim Team to a National Combined Team Title in 1997 and the Women's Team Championship in 1999. 

Anderson began coaching high school and club swimming in his home state of Pennsylvania in the Philadelphia area.  In 1987, Dave moved to Lincoln, Nebraska to be a graduate assistant with the University of Nebraska's men's team and in 1989 he was named Men's Assistant Swimming Coach at the University of Minnesota.  The Gophers finished in the top 10 at the NCAA Championships four times and he earned his Masters degree in Education.  He has served as WI Swimming's Senior Chair, the Central Zone's Coach Director, has been a member of USA Swimming's Board of Directors and is currently serving on the National YMCA Coaches Committee.

Dave coaches high school, college and post graduate ages.  A graduate of Hartwick College (NY), Dave enjoys a variety of athletic endeavors including cycling, ski marathon and alpine touring.  Anderson is married to Laura Petrie Anderson. They have a daughter, Grace, and the family lives in Shorewood, Wisconsin.

Todd Hill

Head Diving Coach


Todd is the Head Diving Coach for both the Schroeder Dive Team and the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee.

Todd has been the Head Diving Coach for the Schroeder Diving Team since the fall of 2003.  Todd was the Schroeder Assistant Coach beginning in 2000.  In his time at Schroeder, Todd has coached numerous athletes to Junior Regional and Junior Zone Meets, as well as having 2 West National qualifiers and 1 YMCA National Champion in 2004. Todd also assisted with one Junior National Champion in 2001. He is a USA Diving Certified Master Spotter in Mats, Dry board, and Trampoline. Todd has coached many local high schools where he has coached 2 Wisconsin State Champions and 2 high school All-Americans. Todd graduated from UWM with a degree in psychology and was a 4-time NCAA Zone Qualifier.

Ben Bartell

Technical Director


Ben is entering his 13 th year of coaching, and is a product of the Schroeder swim team both as an athlete and coach.

Ben started his competitive career as a sophomore at Cedarburg High school.  After his sophomore year he joined the Schroder swim team and swam for coach Anderson, qualifying for YMCA Nationals in his second year.  

Ben is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, where he competed for the Golden Gophers.  As a collegiate athlete, Ben started as a walk on swimmer and finished his career as a four-year letter winner, a 2-time winner of the “Iron Fish” award (hardest worker in the weight room), a 2 time “Most Improved” award winner, a Big Ten Champion (200 yard backstroke), and an NCAA All-American.  Ben also represented Schroeder at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic trials.

After completing his final season, Ben started his coaching career as a summer assistant coach with Schroeder before returning to the University of Minnesota to spend a year as an assistant coach.

After coaching at the U of MN, Ben worked as an age group coach for the Edina Swim Club in Minnesota.  While coaching for Edina, Ben coached numerous champions at the state and zone levels, state record holders, and swimmers in the national top 10.  During his time in Edina he developed and trained multiple Junior, Senior, and Olympic trials qualifiers.  

After leaving Edina and once again coaching for a short stint at Schroeder in the fall of 2007, Ben returned to Minnesota and in the fall of 2009, Ben was named the Aquatics Director for the Minnetonka School District and started the Minnetonka Swim Club.

As the Head Coach of the Minnetonka Swim Club, Ben coached numerous champions at the state, zone, and sectional levels, and has coached several professional and amateur swimmers to top 8 finishes at Junior National, National, and International competitions. Ben’s most well known swimmer is David Plummer, who has won multiple National titles in 50m and 100m backstroke, qualified for multiple National teams, and earned a silver medal in the Men’s 100 meter backstroke at the 2013 World Championships.

Ben has been a member of the USA National team coaching staff, and served as an assistant coach at USA swimming Zone and National Select camps as well as with Team USA at the 2013 Duel in the Pool in Scotland.  

Ben is passionate about the Packers, coaching, teaching, learning, and helping develop athletes to the best of their abilities.


Wendy Frank

Head Novice Coach / Masters Coach


Wendy coaches Age Group 3, Super 8's, Super Stars, Schroeder Stars, Home School, Masters, and Adult Novice.  Wendy grew up swimming for the Milwaukee Recreation Department Piranhas and then for Schroeder.  She has an extensive aquatics background and has taught swimming for Milwaukee County and has been a lifeguard at Milwaukee County pools and beaches.   Wendy is a massage therapist, she coaches the Masters team and is an avid water polo player. 

Eric Christopher Johnson

Eric Johnson has been working with the Masters and Age Group program for 2 years. Graduating from UW-Madison, he continued his education and has his Masters in Sports Management from Cardinal Stritch University. 

He previously coached at Birmingham-Southern University as an Assistant Swimming & Diving Coach where he produced multiple conference champions and NCAA qualifiers. Previous to this, Eric coched for the McFarland Spartan Sharks.

Johnson is originally from Seattle, Wash., and is a graduate of University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was a four-year letter winner and two-time team captain for the Badger swim team. He is the UW-Madison record-holder in the 100-yard breaststroke, was a six-time Big 10 finalist, and NCAA qualifier. Johnson was also an Olympic trial qualifier in the 100- and 200-yard breaststroke.

Johnson is an 20-year swimming veteran, participating in high school, club (King Aquatics), and summer swim league. He has participated at every level in the sport, including zone qualifier, multiple time state champion, Big 10 finalist, NCAA qualifier, national finalist, and Olympic trials qualifier.

Phillip C Davies

Phil is beginning his sixth year of coaching and his 4th with the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center.  Phil grew up outside New York City, swimming for the Badger Swim Club in Larchmont, NY through high school.  He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he swam for 4 years.  At Madison, Phil competed in multiple Nationals, NCAA championships and the 2008 Olympic Trials.  A former school record holder in the 100 freestyle and 200 free relay, Phil completed his collegiate career in 2010 and started coaching for Badger Aquatic Club, where he worked for two years before moving to Milwaukee for graduate school.


Since relocating to Milwaukee in 2012, Phil has coached multiple groups at Schroeder, and been the head coach of Marquette University High School for three seasons.  He is looking forward to another great season with Schroeder this fall!

Alexander Kang Hallam

Alex has had a long career as a swimmer and now is continuing his passion for the sport through coaching. He has been coaching since 2012 and has coached with age group to senior levels. Alex has been with the club since 2015 and coaches groups AG 2 to Senior 1 at our South location.

Alex attended the Univeristy of Wisconsin- Greeny Bay, where he swam all four years and graduated with degrees in Psychology and Human Development. Alex swam distance free, IM, and backstroke while he swam for the Phoenix. He was also president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee where he represented Phoenix student athletes in the Horizon League Conference.   

He is originally from Wausau, Wisconsin, where he swam with the TIDE Swim Club. He went to East High School where he was part of a record setting team throughout his high school career. Highlighted by a State Championship and All American Honors as a part of the East Boys' 200 Medley Relay. 

Trisha Olander

Head Developmental Coach


Trisha’s swimming career started at the age of nine with the West Allis Swim Club. It was quickly realized by her family that she had quite a talent for swimming. Trisha swam four years on Varsity at Muskego High School earning fourteen Conference medals, nine of which were first place finishes; she also earned six Sectional medals, two of which were first place. As a senior she qualified for state with four other members of her team in addition to being a team captain. Throughout high school she also swam for SWAT and Waukesha Express. After high school she chose to swim Division II for the University of South Dakota, where she also earned her coaching certification in swimming and basketball. Trisha’s first coaching job was with the South Sioux Dolphins Swim Team in South Sioux City, Nebraska, where she was the head coach. Her first three seasons with the team consisted of a team third place finish at Short Course Championships and two first place finishes at Long Course Championships. She was also the head coach of the Metro High School Girls Swim Team in Sioux City, Iowa, and the assistant coach of the South Sioux City High School Girls and Boys Teams. Since moving back to the Milwaukee area, Trisha has coached high school swimming for seven years. She has had the opportunity to send several swimmers to Zones, Jr. Nationals, and State meets throughout her coaching career. Most recently, she has coached the New Berlin Swim Club for the last two years. Besides coaching swimming, Trisha is the Director of Technology for Notre Dame School of Milwaukee and co-authored a book on closing the Achievement Gap in the state of Wisconsin. Her family is always busy with some sporting event. Trisha’s husband, Jeff,  is the head JV baseball coach at St. Thomas More High School. She has three children: Grant Michael who is a sophomore at Thomas More has a passion for baseball; especially catching, Brenna Madison age 6 who loves swimming, and Bailee Katherine (deceased). In her spare time she enjoys scrapbooking and going for long runs. She is elated to be joining the Schroeder family. 


Gary Cox

Assistant Diving Coach


Coach Gary Cox has been coaching diving since 1985.  A former Nebraska Cornhusker, Cox was an assistant Dive Coach for the University of Nebraska before moving to Schroeder in 1989.  Gary led Schroeder's Dive Team until 2003 when he moved to administration within the YMCA organzation.  Gary was also the UW-M Diving Coach during his time in Wisconsin.  Gary is the National Coordinator for YMCA Competitive Diving and in USA Diving's Board of Director.  He has two sons Danny a 3 time NCAA All American for Purdue and 2012 USA Olympic Dive Trials participant and Nathan who is at Purdue as an undergrad.

Gary has coached at all levels of the sport and has developed nearly three decades of the area's finest athletes.

Don Jackson

Super Stars Coach


Don is a volunteer coach for Super Stars, Masters and he is an avid golfer. He and his wife Jessie, had three boys go through the YMCA's swim team. His oldest was a multiple team record holder and was a YMCA National Champion. Don is retired from the Milwaukee Fire Department where during his career he rose from the rank of Fireman to second in command, as Assistant Chief.  When Don isn't enjoying a round of golf, playing guitar or swimming with the Masters team, he does an outstanding job with Schroeder's youngest swimmers teaching fundamentals, values and fun. Don also has introduced and mentored many adult athletes in the Schroeder Masters Team.

Tracy Kellner

Assistant Swim Coach


Tracy has been coaching all levels at Schroeder since 1997. Tracy currently coaches Super Stars and is an expert with meet management. She was an outstanding sprinter and an NCAA All American for the University of Iowa where she graduated with a 4.0 in Mechanical Engineering.  Kellner is among the best area triathletes and with regular podium finishes. She is the mother of three: Doug, Julius and Alison and is married to former Schroeder YMCA Team record holder and NCAA All American sprinter Todd Kellner.

Sarah S Wenszell

Assistant Swim Coach


Sarah grew up swimming on the Schroeder YMCA Swim Team and now coaches Schroeder's Super 8s. Sarah is currently at UW-Milwaukee getting her bachelor degree in Athletic Training and then her masters degree in Physical Therapy.

Jennifer Harris

Masters / Sr Coach


Jenny grew up swimming at Schroeder.  She has been a Zone finalist as an age grouper, a high school state champion, National YMCA Finalist, and raced at the US Open.  Jenny was a stand out sprinter for the Badgers and recently turned her athleticism to triathlon.  In August of 2015 Jenny finished 4th overall at the USAT Nationals and 2nd in her age group and will race at ITU World Age Group Championships in Chicago in September.

Jenny coaches Masters and triathletes, administers the Bananas Rec Team, and coaches Senior swimmers.

Kaylee Jennifer Riegler

Assistant Swimming Coach


Kaylee is currently a sophomore at Marquette University, where she is a member of the swimming club and the swimming nationals team. She swam for St. Charles East Swim Team throughout high school where she was promoted to team captain for her senior year. She has worked at the St. Charles Park District for the past three years as a lifeguard and also as a swim coach for the past two years. Kaylee is known for her speedy flip turns and ability to splash bell ringers during the 500. She enjoys swimming distance freestyle along with sprinting butterfly, and is continuing her love for the sport through coaching. 

Paul James Witt

Assistant Swimming Coach


Paul is from Omaha, Nebraska. He began his swimming career relatively late when he tried out for the Creighton Prep Swim Team during his sophomore year of high school. He developed a passion for the sport extremely quickly and joined the Greater Omaha Aquatics club swim team immediately following that high school season. By his senior year, he was a Co-Captain of the Creighton Prep Swim Team and had become a USA Sectional Qualifier,  and excelled in Breaststroke, Backstroke, and IM races. He has been an assistant swim coach for the past three summers for two recreational swim teams. 

Currently, Paul is a sophomore at Marquette University and is studying Biomedical Sciences. Paul hopes to enter Medical School after graduation to become a Pediatrician. He is currently swimming for the Marquette Club Swim Team. He is excited to share his passion for swimming through coaching. 

Cheyanne Rita Carbone

Assistant Swimming Coach


Cheyanne Carbone grew up swimming for Schroeder and swam for Homestead High School.  She attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where she swam four years as a Hawk.  She graduated with a double major in Psychology and Chemistry and a minor in Spanish.  She plans to take a year off before going to graduate school for psychology. Her best swimming memory was her last race of her career, which happened to be her best race.  She earned fourth place in the 200 back at the WIAC Conference Championships. 

Leah Teresa Lustig

Assistant Swimming Coach


Leah is a Senior at Pius High School and swims at the state level.  Leah has been swimming since she was very young with the Milwaukee Pirhanas and the Schroeder team.

Marissa Tatge

Masters Coach


Marissa has been around the pool much of her life; when she wasn’t swimming for the WSAC, Rufus King HS, or UW Stevens Point, she was lifeguarding, coaching and teaching swim lessons. She now coaches Groups 1 and 2 and the Masters Swim Team. She graduated from UWSP with a B.S. in biology and German in 2009. She is an avid runner, having completed her first marathon in 2010 and is currently training for triathlons.
