(this is a team hosted event)

Description

November 7th at Lakeland Pool

Silver and Gold Groups - 8:00am to 10:00am

Bronze, Blue & White Groups - 10:00am to Noon

The Swim-A-Thon is our annual team fundraiser - your chance to earn money for the team by swimming lengths of the pool. This is a great way to contribute, earn awards (prizes for the swimmers and Fair Share hours for the parents) and have some fun with the rest of the team. We will have yummy pancakes for the swimmers in the Makos Room when they finish their sessions.

How Swim-A-Thon works:

Each swimmer has a two-hour period to swim a maximum of 200 laps. All Silver and up swimmers should be able to swim 200 laps in two hours time. Bronze swimmers should strive for 120 to 200 laps. Blue swimmers should be able to swim between 80 and 150 laps, White swimmers between 50 and 100 laps. What makes the Swim-A-Thon especially fun is each swimmer is free to chose how they swim their laps. They can use a kickboard for laps, switch to freestyle for a few laps, then to breaststroke for a few laps, back to kicking, whatever suits them so long as they keep making laps. Swimmers may also request a cup of pennies to assist them in the counting of their laps.

USA Swimming receives 5% of all proceeds with 95% of the funds generated going to our Makos “Booster Club” Board which helps pay for our team needs. Recently, the Booster Club helped to purchase two new starting blocks which enabled us to run ten lanes instead of eight at our last meet. The additional lanes allowed the meet to handle more swimmers and to move at a much faster pace. The Booster Club also purchased additions for the scoreboard and paid for the installation of the new blocks.

How a swimmer collects money is up to them. Swimmers typically get pledges from family, friends, neighbors, businesses, etc.  Some choose to get pledges per lap and collect money prior to swimming while others get pledges and collect the money after the Swim-A-Thon . All pledges and donations need to be received by Monday, November 23rd.  Checks should be made out to:  Mississippi Makos.

Thank you for your support and let’s swim some laps!
