Our
6th Annual Texas Terrapins Swim-A-Thon will be held on:
November 18 - 19, 2009
!!!
What is a Swim-A-Thon you ask?
It
is a FUNdraiser in which TTST Swimmers earn money for their team by swimming lengths of the pool. Blue
Group Swimmers
have a 30 – 45 minute period to swim a maximum of 10 lengths. Green Group Swimmers
have a 1 hour period to swim a maximum of 100 lengths. Bronze, Celestrium and Gold
Group Swimmers
have a 1.5 hour period to swim a maximum of 200 lengths.
Participants get
pledges from businesses, family members,
neighbors, etc. prior to swimming. The pledges can either be a set amount or can be a certain amount per length. There is even a simple way to have out-of-town friends and relatives pledge their support. TTST
provides sample letters and pledge forms that can be mailed out and
returned. This is a
USA Swimming supported event, thus 95% of all FUNd$ raised
go directly to the Texas Terrapins Swim Team! USA Swimming collects only 5% of the FUNd$ raised.

Why
hold a Swim-A-Thon, you ask? Texas
Terrapin Swim Team is a 501(c ) not-for-profit, parent
run organization. What does
this mean?
All dollars that come in to TTST go directly to the operating,
maintenance, and the expansion of our facilities and programs.
No one individual or group of
individuals is making a profit from TTST. FUNdraising helps our swim club do the extra things
that our monthly training fees just do not cover, while keeping
monthly training fees as low as possible. This FUNdraising event
is 1 of 3 opportunities throughout the swim season for swim
families to reach their $100 minimum contribution.
The FUNd$ raised this year will go towards the lease of our pools
– especially our new location – the Cy-Ranch
Natatorium!!
How do
I get pledges? Ask,
ask, and ask! Use the enclosed letter
samples for friends and family that live far away. A pledge form is included, as well as a sign up
sheet for those who want to support TTST. Handy supplies from USA Swimming will be available
too.
How do
I collect the money? Money
is collected both before and after the Swim-a-thon. If people
pledge a flat fee, like $50.00, you may collect it on the spot or
go back after your swim and collect the money. Always
thank them for their contribution to TTST.
When
someone pledges per lap, you will need to collect the pledge money
after the Swim-a-thon. ie. $.50 per lap - swim 100 laps = $50.00 or
swim 200 laps $100.00. Thank them for their
contribution to TTST. All checks
should be made out to TTST. Thank them for their contribution to TTST.
Money
is due by 12/15/2009.
Swim-A-Thon Volunteers:
We need parents to volunteer to be lap counters! We have 13 lanes at the Cy-Ranch Natatorium and 6
lanes at the Fairfield Athletic Center (FAC) pool, and there will
be several swimmers in each lane. We
need a minimum of 2 lap counters for each lane!
ALL Lap
Counting “jobs” have been posted on our website under
the Swimathon Event. We
also need volunteers to facilitate Food & Prizes. To reward the swimmers’ hard work, we will be providing pizza, drinks, and goodies for all the participants after their swims! There are plenty of opportunities to volunteer, so plan on
attending with your swimmer to encourage them, enjoy the fun, and
volunteer to help out.
TTST will be
awarding prizes for top earners as
well as
prizes for most laps swam by level. In
addition, awards like t-shirts, towels, and bags can also be earned from USA Swimming. This is a sampling of the

Overall, we hope this will be a FUN way to FUNdraise for both the
swimmers and their families! What better way to earn money
for our Team, than to let our swimmers do what they enjoy the
