Kevin Swander is the 2009 World
University Games Champion in the 50-meter Breaststroke; a race in
which he tied the then World Record with a time of 27.14. That time
now ranks him as the 7th fastest swimmer of all-time in that event.
Kevin followed that meet with a gold medal at the 2009 US Open in
the 100-meter Breast. His time of 59.40 ranks as the 13th fastest
ever.
Kevin was a 13-time NCAA
All-American during his athletic career at Indiana University,
highlighted by a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke
at the 2006 NCAA Championships. As a two-time Big Ten Swimmer of
the Championships, Swander set a new meet record in the 100 breast
en route to the conference title in 2006. In addition, Swander
finished third in the 200 breast and fourth in the 200-yard
individual medley to lead Indiana to its first Big Ten team title
in 21 years.
As a junior in 2005, Swander won
the Big Ten crown in the 200 breast. He also competed in the World
University games that summer, bringing home silver medals for his
performances in the 100-meter breast and the 400-meter medley
relay.
In the summer of 2004, Swander
won the 100m breast national title at the ConocoPhillips National
Championships, becoming the first Hoosier to bring home a national
title since 1980. He is also a two-time finalist at the US Olympic
Trials.
Kevin swam for Center Grove High
School where he was a multi-time All-American and state finalist.
He currently lives and trains in Bloomington, Indiana.
