WAC swimmers and families
enjoyed a great weekend of fast swimming, a relaxing picnic and
some fun golf.
Outdistancing the other 17 teams we broke the 4000 point barrier
(4207.5 PTS) for the first time ever with 10 swimmers placing in
the top three in their respective age groups. Ben Bailey also won the Jake
Deerhake Award for top overall scorer!
Thanks to Scott Humphrey
and everyone that helped him plan a great picnic after
Saturday’s events. All the food was wonderful and a
great chance to relax and converse with other WAC families.
Also, thanks to Coach Steve for organizing the first annual George
Haney Golf Outing. 26
swimmers and parents hacked their way around either 9 or 18 holes
at the Hillcrest Golf Club all coming away with their own stories
of what a great time they had. Fortunately, Cindy (Haney) and
all three of her boys, Andy, Jay and Brad were available to
play. I’m
certain it would have please George to see how much fun everyone
was having.

AUSTIN STAAB RE-SETS THE AMERICAN
RECORD IN THE 100 FLY!
If you recall, Austin, a
sophmore at Stanford University and Westerville Aquatic Club
swimmer became the fastest American to swim the 100 Butterfly at
the Pac 10 Conference meet swimming it in 44.69. In the
preliminary heats of the NCAA Championships Auburn swimmer
Tyler McGill broke Austin’s record by 2 hundreths (.02) of a
second. However, in the finals Austin came storming back and
broke his previous record by over a half a second
with an amazing 44.18! Congratulations Austin - the whole WAC
family is very proud of you.

Congratulations WAC High School
Swimmers.
WAC’s mission is to
provide the opportunity for every child to pursue excellence within
the sport of swimming. It is a strict belief of the Head Coach Jim
Peterfish that in order for a young person to develop fully as an
individual they must prioritize their family, school and faith
above their athletic endeavors. If swimming plays an important
fourth in their lives they will be able to pursue excellence in
swimming while also developing mentally and spiritually
Simply stated, the goals set forth for all WAC swimmers in order of
importance include:
Have fun
Swim well
Swim fast
The role of youth sports is to provide experiences which enhance
the total social, emotional and physical development of each
individual. Swimming provides that positive environment in
which each athlete can take advantage of the opportunities
presented, and develop to the fullest of his or her
potential.
Team selection and organization:
Selection of athletes is from the list of families in good
standing and based on group availability only. Every attempt will
be made to accept all athletes while maintaining quality conditions
for current members. All athletes will represent WAC through the
championships of the current season. Dual or split representation
with another USA swimming team by the swimmer or family is by
permission of the head coach only. This does not apply to summer
swim clubs, high school, YMCA or college teams.
Swimmers are placed into one of several groups appropriate for
their age and ability level. They may be advanced at any time
during the season as deemed advantageous to their progress.
Original placement and advancement is strictly the role of the Head
Coach or Head Age Group coach.
Family member status:
To become a member in good standing, a registration
agreement must be signed and returned with other registration
materials. Adherence to the registration agreement while
maintaining current fee status will keep a family in good standing.
Swimmers group fees should be paid on the posted due
date. Unpaid fees are subject to late fee penalties.
Swimmers will not be entered in any upcoming competitions if
balance is past due 30 days. Accounts past due 45 days will result
in loss of training privileges. Total season fees must be paid in
full for a swimmer to return.
