The
YMCA’s Bellevue Eastside Swim Team provides opportunities for
swimmers to attain their swimming goals by teaching skills and core
values while promoting a healthy lifestyle, developing a strong
work ethic, and stressing team work through competitive
swimming.
Our Philosophy
Our swimmers are encouraged to
compete with themselves first. They are coached to learn new
skills, try new events, and seek time improvements. We believe that
one of the most important lessons that can be learned is to take
responsibility for one’s own actions. The coach provides the
guidance, but only the swimmer can set and actively pursue his or
her goals.
Another important aspect of
our philosophy is that we recognize and accept the diversity of
skills and interests of our swimmers. The program is set up so that
each group provides the swimmer with sufficient training and
instruction to allow the swimmer to be successful at any given
level (PSSA dual meets, local PNS, or YMCA Regional, or
US National level meets).
We expect the swimmer to adopt
a training schedule that is consistent with their personal goals.
We do not expect all swimmers to have the same goals, talents, or
commitment to swimming. The coaches will do their best to encourage
the swimmer to be the best he or she can be.
