Our club is a USS year round
competitive swim team offering high quality professional coaching
and technique instruction for all ages and abilities. The goal of
our team is to provide every member an opportunity to improve
swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability,
from novice to international competitor.
All of our coaches, as members of
the American Swim Coaches Association, have access to the most
comprehensive training and certification program for youth coaches
of any sport in the United States. They provide assurances that the
time children spend in swimming will be quality time.
SMAC Swimming was founded in 1988
by former coach Ron Evans. It was started to give the Monroe
Varsity Teams more training time during the summer months.
The original team name was Wolverine Aquatic Club of Monroe
(WACM). Over the years, the team has grown significantly,
training athletes from several surrounding counties and high
schools. Growing from a summer based swim club, to a
year-round competitive based USA swim team. In 2001, the team
name was changed to Southern Michigan Aquatic Club (SMAC) to
recognize our growth throughout lower Michigan.
We currently train at the Monroe
High School, Dick Waters Natatorium located at 901 Herr Rd. Click
here for directions to pool.
We offer 6 different groups to
meet the ages and abilities of our swimmers. Our beginner
group (Minnow 1) is made of 5-7yr olds who are comfortable with the
water, but are learning to swim on thier own. Our most
advanced group (Gold/Senior) is for the serious swimmer who trains
year-round and competes at Local, State, and National meets.
Practice times and days vary for each group and become more
demanding as they progress.
New Swimmer Registration nights for
SMAC happens 3x per year. 2nd week of Sept, 2nd week of Jan,
and 1st week of May. However, we welcome new swimmers at any
time, and fees can be prorated for late comers. When
joinin SMAC for the first time, all new swimmers will be given a
basic swim test to see what swimming skills they have. They
will then be placed in one of the swimming groups for the next
practice time.
Please check out the description of
all our
swim groups to see which group your child may be placed
in.
