Membership Information

PASA - Palo Alto Swim Club - Rinconada Site

Palo Alto Swim Club caters to swimmers at many levels, from beginners to those who are qualified to compete at National meets. Founded in 1955, the Club became a founding member of Palo Alto Stanford Aquatics (PASA) which united several different local Clubs under one team umbrella. All Clubs under the PASA umbrella compete together as one team and swimmers from each of the Clubs frequently mix together for joint training sessions, travel meets and team social events.

There are currently 650+ swimmers registered with PASA. The entire PASA team shares an overall philosophy and coaching style while each site, including the Palo Alto Swim Club site has retained its original small-team feel.

Palo Alto Swim Club welcomes swimmers of all ages and abilities. We have a number of different Practice Groups that are generally set-up by age group (e.g. 8 & Unders, 9/10’s, etc.) and ability level. New members may join the team at any time during the year. The team practices weekday afternoons at Rinconada Pool located off Embarcadero Road in Palo Alto. Driving directions can be found at: Driving Directions. Information about fees and dues can be found at: Membership & Fees. More information about the history of Palo Alto Swim Club can be found at About the Club.

For tryout information at any of the other PASA sites, please refer to http://www.pasa-swim.org/Home.jsp?team=pspasa and look under pool locations for contact information of each site's coaches.  Please note that you are curently on the Rinconada site.

Palo Alto Swim Club Team Try-outs

The main annual try-outs for all Palo Alto Swim Club practice groups is held by all coaches during one week in each fall, usually around Labor Day.  Any swimmers interested in joining can attend these try-outs.  Postings will be placed on the website in late summer with specific days and times.  Swimmers who attend tryouts must meet the minimum group requirements for each age group. Swimmers who are 8 and under must be able to continuously swim 25 yards of both freestyle & backstroke, and not be fearful of jumping in the pool from the side. Swimmers 9 and older must be able to swim all four competitive strokes legally, do a racing dive from the blocks and perform both free and back flip turns.

Swimmers should arrive prepared to swim in appropriate swimwear, with a swim cap if you have one. Goggles are required. Parents must remain in the covered area on the southern side of the pool, not on the bleachers or on the pool deck. Please refrain from talking with the coaches during tryouts, as they are busy assessing the swimmers.

Swimmers who participate will either be placed in a group (space permitted), referred to another PASA site or receive a recommendation to continue with swim lessons. Swimmers who already have experience swimming on a year-round swim team should directly contact the appropriate coach for that swimmer's age group.Private lessons by coaches are provided only to team members, although these are purely optional.

For more information and to schedule a try-out mid-year, please contact the Practice Group Coach appropriate for the age of your swimmer:

Please understand that acceptance on the team is not always an immediate decision; it may take a few days to determine placement. Your patience is appreciated during the tryout process.

Transfers from Other Teams
Swimmers interested in transferring to PASC from another team should contact the Head Coach. Transfers to PASA from other USA Swimming teams outside of the PASA umbrella (PASC, SCRA, UC, Alpine & PAC) must complete a transfer form in addition to completing the required PASC registration forms. The Pacific Swimming transfer form can be downloaded at www.pacswim.org/page/doc_forms.html

Swimmers who transfer to PASA from another team (outside of the PASA umbrella) are “Unattached” and not eligible to compete with PASA as their affiliation until 120 days from the last day of competition in which they represented their former Club. Unattached status allows a swimmer to swim individual events, but they cannot score points for PASA or swim on relays.

The transfer fee for a swimmer who has a current Pacific Swimming registration with a non-PASA team is $125. The transfer fee for a currently non-PASC, but PASA swimmer to PASC is $50.

Resignation
Members planning to leave the team should notify their Coach and the Membership Chair at membership@paloaltoswimclub.org. Members may leave the team at any time during the swim year. Swimmers who resign from the team and return later in the swim year, will be required to re-register.
