2009 Summer Swim Season
NEW SWIMMER INFORMATION!
Is this swimming
lessons?
o NO! Our coaches are
hired to help improve the swimming skills your child already
possess. Unfortunately, we are not an organization
which provides lessons.
Does my child have to be a good
swimmer?
o NO! However, because we
compete, we do require a basic ability to
swim. All new
swimmers are required to try out for the team and must make a
minimum time standard in freestyle to be eligible to
join. Our team is made up of swimmers with
various skill levels and our coaches will work with the kids to
teach them new strokes, and refine the ones they already
know.
What are the qualifying times and how did you come up with
them?
o The qualifying times can be
found
here.
Times from each age group taken from the time trial meet last year
were used. High and low times were discarded, and the rest
averaged. The qualifying times represent the average plus
20%.
What if my swimmer doesn’t make the time, can
they still be a Seal?
o Yes, but they will start as a Seal
Cub. The Seal Cub program is a first for the team and will
launch in the 2009 season. This 5 week non competetive
program is designed to help those swimmers with a basic ability
achieve the strength, stamina, skills and endurance for competetive
swimming. Cub practices will be held by age group at the
Havenhouse pool, and will be coached by High School swimmers who
are current Seals and lifeguard certified.
How often do you practice?
o Practices are held in May, and June every
weekday.
How often are meets?
o Your child should plan to attend the 1st
practice meet, 5 dual meets, and 1 divisional meet scheduled
for 7 consecutive Saturdays during the months of May and June this
summer. See the
meet schedule in the registration package and on the
website.
Do we have to go to the meets?
o No, but the meets are where the kids
really get to shine. Plan on attending all seven meets and
watch your child impress themselves and you on a weekly
basis. You MUST let the coach know if your child cannot
attend a meet. We enter swimmers in each meet on the Tuesday
before the meet.
Do I have to live in Imperial Oaks?
o YES. Due to the size of our
team, we can only allow Imperial Oaks residents to join as new
swimmers. Imperial Oaks includes the POA, Section 9, The
Falls, and The Meadows.
What if we don’t live in Imperial
Oaks, can we still summer league
swim?
o We know that there are great families
in surrounding communities who would like to join our team.
Unfortunately we do not have the facilities to grow beyond our
current participation level. Our good friends the Oak Ridge
Otters are a great team to summer league with if you are not a
resident of Imperial Oaks. Contact Belinda Sipp @ bsipp@conroeisd.net for more information on their
program.
What
does it cost?
o Our registration fee for the 2008 summer is
$175 for Imperial Oaks residents. Families with more
than one swimmer participating receive a discount on the additional
swimmers. The registration includes a team T-shirt, yard
sign, 4 tickets to the crawfish boil, and an end of season
award. A team suit should be considered for your
child. They are about $25 for boys, and $45 for girls. Click
on the Registration tab for more information and forms.
Is it fun?
o YES! Swim team is a great way to
watch your child improve their skills and self esteem!
Additionally, it is a terrific way to meet new neighbors and
friends and a great opportunity for your child to "hang out" with
their friends.
Do I have to help?
o YES! Our team
survives and thrives on volunteers. Over 90 parent positions
need to be filled at each meet. None of the jobs are
difficult, and all require minimal time. We know you are
there to see your child swim, and we promise that no matter the
job, watching your child swim will be the most important thing you
do on Saturday morning!
If you are
craving an activity that your child will enjoy, then the SEALS are
here for you
