Dear Prospective Member,

Thank you for your interest in the City of Charleston’s Southern Marlins Racing Team (SMRT).  SMRT has offered a national caliber swim program for more than 10 years.  We strive to cultivate an environment in which athletes learn sportsmanship, self-discipline, and a lifelong love for the sport of swimming.  SMRT is a competitive, year-round, swim team affiliated with USA Swimming and based out of Charleston county.  SMRT provides swimmers of all ages the opportunity to reach their full potential as competitive swimmers while helping them to develop self-esteem, time management skills, loyalty, respect, team spirit, and friendship.  We are dedicated to building positive relationships with our swimmers and their families, strengthening our community, and continuing the standards of excellence on which our program was built.

USA Swimming has recognized SMRT as a “Silver Medal Club of Excellence”, the only South Carolina Swimming club with this distinction.  SMRT has also achieved USA Swimming’s Club Recognition Program’s Level 4 in the state of SC, recognizing the team’s effort in all aspects of competitive swimming and team management.

SMRT’s head coach Dave Horton has over 20 years of coaching and experiences competing in US Nationals, Canadian Nationals, and British Nationals.  All our other age group coaches offer over 100 years of combined swimming knowledge to SMRT athletes.

Our competitive program is designed to meet the needs of all swimmers at all levels of swimming.  Our programs start by focusing on the fundamentals of stroke technique, and progress into preparing swimmers for competition at the local, state, regional and national levels.
