We've got a lot going on this weekend as the season heats up along with the weather. Bowling details are provided with a working link this time, and don't forget the 4th of July Float and Dance design and choreography session on Sunday! We'll be competing in the water on Saturday, but Sunday is all about taking our competion to the streets of Larkspur on the 4th of July...yeah, we'd like to crush that parade (again this year)!
Bowling Night, June 2nd: 6:00 - 8:00pm Swimmers Ages 8 & Up - FREE!
Are your kids looking for a way to spend more time with their swim friends and coaches after a swim meet? Here is their opportunity!
Swimmers ages 8 & Up are welcome to join our coaches at Country Club Bowl, 88 Vivian St., San Rafael. Time: 6:00pm- 8:00pm (or when finished). Night includes 2 games, shoes, pizza, drinks, and cake, and there is no charge for the swimmers. To help our coaches focus the kids more on bowling than on sizing, please remind kids of their shoe size before dropping them off (hint: the Sharpie works well for this too!)--and don't forget those all important socks...rental shoes and all.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch or have separate games with other parents--but umm, pay for these yourselves, if you don't mind. Also, to head off a very popular question...5, 6 and 7 year olds are not yet 8...so, gently let them know that someday they will be 8 and will get to attend this fun event, but for now it is something for them to look forward to in the future, even if older brother and sister already get to go. They are welcome to play with mom and dad, however.
4th of July Parade Planning: June 3rd 1:30 - 4:00pm
No pressure here team, but we have WON the last 2 years in a row, and if you've been to the parade, you kind of know, our COMMUNITY of Parade go-ers NEEDS US! We have definitely upped the ante for this community treat, and we want to continue to raise the bar! On Sunday June 3rd at 1:30pm we are going to have a kickoff and design meeting for the Tidalwaves parade entry. We invite ALL swimmers age 9 and up and their parents who have an interest in float design and dance/choreography (dancers AND gymnasts WANTED!) to join us to start working on our entry. Please sign up here for the meeting. Those who plan get first priority for riding on the float! Please bring your enthusiasm and ideas! First prize comes with community bragging rights! And um, no, there are no volunteer points for this parents...just bragging rights and FUN, FUN, FUN!!
Kids under 9, not to fear -- you will be able to participate in the parade and on the float if you'd like. The kickoff event location will be "Casa de Kawamura" address to be sent out once people sign up. Thank you to our veteran Parade Float lead Jane Fielding for leading this event!
AWAY Meet at Novato: Warm-ups begin at 8:00am
Thank goodness for an early meet at a nice big pool--to minimize time spent in the scorching sun that is. Plenty of space at this one for spreading out, but folks, this is going to be a VERY close meet! We need all swimmers to come pumped up to swim their hardest and maybe even pull out some big surprise swims--the competition will be as hot as the weather on Saturday!
Click here for all necessary information for where College of Marin Indian Valley Campus and its pool can be found on Saturday. Most important thing to know about this location? You must buy a parking permit ($4 investment)...a good price considering tickets for not having one run about $45.
Volunteer Check In
We will have Jolene Egan as our check-in volunteer at the meet. Find her at the timers meeting to check in if you are a timer, or at the ribbons desk at the start of the breaststroke if you are a ribbons volunteers. For stroke and turn judges and timers, please read the info provided from Novato for meeting times and locations. There is also a meeting after the backstroke for all second half timers. Listen carefully for announcements--roughly around 10:45-11:00.
Where Should Swimmers Check In?
Look for Age Group Coordinators stationed near the main entrance to the pool, I believe. Oh, and a BIG ASK from our Age Group Coordinators for speeding up the check-in process, please, please write your child's Event, Heat, Lane info on their hand at home...lines have been long and slow preventing swimmers from making warm-ups. Picture is below...go ahead, try it, or let your kids try it! AGC's will be happy to check it for accuracy.
Heat Sheets and Relays
Please click here to find the heat sheets for the meet along with that all important Heat/Lane Report by Swimmer (all girls listed first alpabetically by last name, then boys). Additionally, since this is a dual meet you will also find RELAYS next to the Heat/Lane Report. All age group relay teams are made up of two boys and two girls. Swimmers earn spots on relay teams based on their times. Please review these relay teams carefully. Also note that relays appear on the Heat/Lane report as well and the number next to the Heat and Lane represents the swimmers position on the team...i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th.
What do Relay Swimmers Need to Know...Especially FREE RELAY Swimmers?
While we did our best to try and figure out notes, it is entirely possible that your child has been placed in a relay that s/he will not be able to make. If this is the case, PLEASE notify our head Age Group Coordinator for the day, Rachel Verby (firstname.lastname@example.org) ASAP so that she may begin working with coach Marie to find a replacement. If your child cannot be in a relay, and in the event that you have an emergency that causes you to have to leave early from the meet, that you please notify an age group coordinator before you leave.
Relay swimmers age 14 and Under - Please make sure you check in with the Age Group Coordinators Saturday morning. They need to know you are at the meet!
15-18 relays please check in with coach Marie on Saturday, she will confirm relays once she knows for sure who is there-- no later than 7:45am, please.
What if my child is not listed on the Heat Sheets?
If you notice that your child was inadvertently left off the heat sheets, please notify Liz Foley as soon as possible.
What if my child is listed on the Heat Sheets but won't be able to Swim Afterall?
Please just let Liz Foley and Rachel Verby know if your child will not be at the meet.
