The 2012 Ohio State Swim Club Thanks for Giving Fall Classic Swim Meet & Food Drive was an overwhelming success. The event, held Sunday, November 18, hosted 700 central Ohio swimmers from 12 teams in a food drive competition benefiting the Mid-Ohio Foodbank in conjunction with a one-day USA Swimming meet. The event raised a total of 6,584 pounds of food, exceeding this year’s goal by over 2,500 pounds.
Each year, the visiting team that brings the most food items to the competition is named the visiting team food drive champion. For the second year, the Dublin Community Swim Team won the crown, donating 1,408 food items, followed by New Albany Aquatic Club (582), and Liberty Township Powell YMCA (323).
The Ohio State Swim Club swimmers compete in an intra-squad competition between the seven training groups. The gold training group was winner for the third year in a row by donating 916 food items. View the complete results.
The food was submitted to the Battle Against Hunger as part of Ohio State’s Beat Michigan Week activities.
The Ohio State Swim Club is an age-group competitive USA Swimming team hosted through the Department of Recreational Sports in the Office of Student Life in the Ohio State University.
