So Sorry! The "Splash Week Starts Monday!" e-mail contained a link to the 2017 Splash Week Schedule. Here is the e-mail again with the correct link!
Yes, it's finally time to SPLASH into the season! This is your reminder e-mail about the next 2 weeks...we welcome everyone into the 2018 season and start off with our first THANK YOU to Hot Chocolate, Team Gear, Board Volunteers, and Coaches who will all be busy making the start of our season a success! Read on for schedule reminders, what to bring, when to get your gear, and what happens after Splash Weeks!
Splash Weeks Schedule (REDWOOD)
The Splash Week Schedules are on the website. Click here for a refresher on your child's swim schedule over the next two weeks. Can't make all the days that the coaches would like your swimmer to come? Relax. All any of us can do is the best we can do. Coaches will also do the best they can do with the information they have. Practice group placements can and do change over time as well.
Remember, COM Tadpoles do not go to Splash Weeks. 8 & Under Blue COM swimmers may go to Splash Weeks if they are interested in being assessed for the 8 & Under Gold group at Redwood. COM Tadpole and 8 & Under practices begin at COM on Tuesday, February 27th.
Who Is Considered a "Returning" Swimmer?
Good question. For Splash week assessments we are considering any swimmer who has swum in a Tidalwaves swim meet a "Returning" swimmer. Any swimmer who does not meet that definition is considered a NEW swimmer.
My Child's Birthday Falls during the season. Which Splash Week Group Is S/he In?
For purposes of assessment, we are using the "Age Of" date of May 5th (our first dual meet) to determine which Splash Week practice time your child should attend. After Splash Weeks, Coach Marie will use birthday along with experience, assessed ability, readiness to learn in a group and other criteria to determine which practice group is best for your child. She will also consider our team numbers to ensure that no practice group is over-crowded.
What Happens When the Swimmers Get to the Pool?
For Splash Weeks, swimmers should arrive a few minutes before their practice time slot to check in at the gate with the registration volunteer (Liz Foley or an 'appointee'). Once the swimmer is checked in, he or she should put his or her warm towel and any other swim stuff in one of the cubbies on the deck and then move to the bleachers to wait for the coaches to call their group. Please remember that parents are not allowed on the deck. Help your child get their cap on and goggles sized outside of the gate. We will have board members available to help new swimmers on the deck the first week. DON'T FORGET FINS! Coaches will have the kids start using fins during Splash Weeks. Fin donations will be accepted and used fins will be available to anyone who does not purchase...while supplies last, of course. Please also have your child mark their fins in a way that is easily identifiable to them (with a Sharpie).
For COM Swimmers, one of the coaches will check the swimmers in either before practice or after. Parents, nannies, grandparents and siblings are welcome in the bleachers. While we welcome the presence of our 'future Tidalwaves' at practices so they can 'catch the wave' of swim excitement, we need parents and caregivers to watch them carefully and keep them in and behind the bleachers so that coaches can focus their attention on the kids in the water. Thank you for understanding the importance of this safety rule. A "COM" specific e-mail will be sent out following this one with other COM specific info.
