Welcome Back NVST Families.
I am the newly elected President
of NVST. In case some of you may not know
me, my daughter is 10 year old Megan Minor and swims in
Age Group 3. Our new Vice President is Jeff
Stephens whose 12 year old daughter Emily swims in Age
Group 3. Our new Treasurer is Rich Mitchell whose 7 year
old son Robert swims in Age Group 1. Our new
Secretary is Renee Sicard and she has a 15 year
old daughter Brittany who swims in the Senior
Group. Our new Members at Large are: Bob Amundson, who
has a 12 year old daughter Ashley who swims in Age Group 3;
Laura Schafle who has 3 daughters, Kathleen, age
10, Elizabeth age 11 and Corinne age 16; and Kevin Roberts who
has a son Cayd, age 7 and a daughter Elise, age 12. With
these new faces on the board, we hope to bring new ideas to
the team.
One of our main goals is to get more
parental input into the running of the team. I have
heard from many newer families that they believed the Board
Meetings were closed, this is a MYTH. I want to
personally welcome ALL families to every board meeting, as
they are not closed, they are open for every member of the
swim
team. In order to continue to have a succesfull swim
team, we need to keep open the lines of
communication. Therefore, we will be posting
the agenda for the upcoming board meetings on our Team Unify
Website (napavalleyswim.com). The unapproved
minutes from the previous board meetings will also be
posted. We will try to post the agendas and minutes two
weeks prior to the board meeting in hopes to get some feedback and
input on upcoming agenda items and any comments on the
minutes. If you have any issues that you would like
addressed, please feel free to e-mail me (woodman5636@sbcglobal.net) and
we will get them on the agenda. Again, one of our goals
as a new board is communication and involvement amongst all
the NVST families. This also includes any concerns or
problems or criticisms any of you may have. Our door, so to
speak, is always open and I am on the pool deck most days from
4:15-6:15 .
As a new board, we have many new ideas for
the swim team, however we also realize that some of you may also
have ideas, so let’s put our heads together with these ideas
and have a great swim season.
One topic that will be on the agenda for
this upcoming board meeting is fundraising and sponsorship.
We realize that there are many forms of fundraising, not just
selling Sees Candy or wrapping paper. This is where we are
calling upon NVST families. We need ideas for
fundraisers (crab feeds, spaghetti feeds, sponsoring a marathon,
etc, etc, etc). We will be looking for someone to head a
"Fundraising Committee." We also would like to look into Sponsors
and will be looking for a committe head for this
also.
Another topic on this month’s
agenda will be the team’s calendar, which includes swim
meets, social events (i.e., X-Mas party, Awards Banquet,
etc). We would like to get the dates for these events on
the calendar as soon as possible, so parents can plan ahead of
time. For those families who aren’t familiar with
scheduling of swim meets, meets are bid on at different times of
the year therefore not all of our meets can be on our calendar as
of this date. Meets will be added to our schedule
as meets are sanctioned and approved.
I want to thank everyone for their hard
work on Registration Day and the picnic. It was very
successful as we had almost 100% return and many
new families join. Thank you for completing your packets and
committe heads will be contacting you in the near future. If
you have not received a phone call by the end of September,
please let me know. For those new families, NVST has a Mentor Program and
if you have not received a call from your mentor family please
e-mail me.
