USA Swimming Imposes Suit Restrictions

A note from Coach Cliff

USA Swimming will be outlawing suits that extend below the knee, shoulders, or neck beginning May 15, 2009.  The ban is only in effect for swimmers 12 & under.  The rationale is that these suits are very expensive and that swimmers and parents that are new to the sport should not feel pressured into purchasing these new and very technical suits.

My advice is to hold off on buying one of these suits until you, the swimmer, and the coach feels that the suit is a must for further improvement or in order to compete with others who are also wearing such suits.

A fast swimmer does not a suit make.  The swimmer makes the suit.  Work hard, work on technique, and work on race strategy.  When you have perfected these aspects of competitive swimming then you should consider a technical suit.
