KING Women Win National Championship

King Aquatic Club won the team championship for club women at the 2008 USA Swimming Short Course National Championship yesterday at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, site of the 1996 Olympic swimming competition. KING scored 255 points beating out second place Swim Atlanta and third place Athens Bulldog Swim Club.

Team Scores

The King Aquatic Club (KING) women also won the 200y medley relay with a championship meet record time of 1:38.74. Leona Jennings (Des Moines, Wash.) led off the relay in the backstroke leg followed by Ariana Kukors swimming breaststroke, Lindsey Marchand swimming butterfly, and Kim Jasmer (Seattle, Wash.) anchoring the relay in the freestyle leg. KING also placed second in the 400y medley relay, and placed third in the 400y freestyle relay.

In the individual events, Kukors (Auburn, Wash.) took home her first win of the meet with a strong swim in the women’s 200y breast. Kukors took the lead in the second 50, and held on to it throughout the race to finish in 2:08.33. Kukors also scored three individual second places finished in the 100y back, 100y breast, and the 200y individual medley. Marchand (Gig Harbor, Wash.) placed second in the100y butterfly.
