Northern Lights Swim Club had a big weekend at Alaska’s
Age Group Championship December 5-7 in Ketchikan. NLSC only
took 26 of it’s approximately 50 qualifiers to the meet and
placed 2nd behind SEAK (98 swimmers).
NLSC won the prestigious "Most Points per Swimmer" award.
NLSC swimmers scored over 22 points per swimmer, which is an
average of 3 first place finishes per swimmer. The points per
swimmer award recognizes the quality of swims and swimmers.
It is a great award to bring home.
Several NLSC swimmers placed well in their respective high point
races. The following swimmers won high point awards for their
age groups:
- Zoe Wangstrom - 2nd place; 10 & Under Girls
- Spencer Rockwell - 2nd place; 11 year old Boys
- Jesi Cavanaugh - 1st place; 13 year old Girls
- Marlana Tuccillo - 2nd place; 13 year old Girls
- Mary Uselmann - 3rd place; 13 year old Girls
- Zak Rockwell - 1st place; 13 year old Boys
- Sam Wicks - 1st place; 14 year old Girls
Individually we did very well. Not listed above are a
couple of swimmers who placed just out of the high point awards
with 4th place finishes (Carrie Sauerbrey & Xander Emili; 13
year olds).
Our 13-14 year old girls swept their relays coming respectfully
close to state records in the 200 Free, 400 Free, and 200 Medley
Relays. The good news is that none the girls who swam on them
are due to age out of the age group until next summer. They
still have a great shot.
Stay tuned for the next championship meet, the Great Alaska
Open, coming up at the end of January.
