2009 Season update!

WELCOME TO THE 2009 SEALS SUMMER SEASON!

Dear Parents,

There are many exciting changes to the program this summer; here are some of the highlights:

  • Registration Fees – The fee for the first swimmer has been increased to include the purchase of 4 tickets to the crawfish boil fundraiser. These tickets may be used by your family, or sold to friends or neighbors to offset your costs. Additional tickets may be purchased in advance for $12 each. Kids 6 and under eat for free. In addition, a team T-shirt for each swimmer and a SEALS yard sign will also be provided for your family with the registration fee. All other costs remain unchanged.

Here is an example for a family of two swimmers:

  • Try Outs – Team try outs are still taking place this season for NEW Seals. The 6 and under times have been eliminated. 6 and under NEW swimmers will be required to complete 25 yards of freestyle, no time limit, but unassisted, to be eligible for team.

  • Seal CUBS program – We are excited to bring a non competitive program to the community this summer. The Seal CUBS is designed to allow those swimmers who want to participate, but do not yet meet the cut off times, to practice daily for five weeks during the season. These practices will be held at the Havenhouse pool and will be led by some of our seasoned Seal swimmers who are High School swimmers and lifeguard certified. CUBS swimmers will enjoy a team T-shirt and yard sign and all of the perks of being a Seal, but will not compete.

  • Facilities – The Seals are expanding! We are fortunate to be using the brand new competition pool at The Falls in Imperial Oaks. This new six lane pool is located at the end of North Ridge Forest Drive, just two miles from the current facility. The addition of this pool allows us to now use 3 pools totalling 15 lanes for getting our swimmers ready to compete!

  • Age group specific facilities – To better serve our swimmers, we have split the team into two groups. 10 and under swimmers will be practicing exclusively at the new facility in The Falls11 and up swimmers will be practicing exclusively at the POA pool. This split should allow us to increase practice times, decrease kid to coach ratios, and allow for a better experience for all. MEETS will still be held at the POA pool, and all swimmers will be there together on Saturdays to compete.

  • Age group specific coaches – We are splitting our swimmers, and as such need to split our coaches. Our coaching staff is being allocated to best serve our swimmers:

    • 10 and under coaches – Kevin Beymann will be the 10 and under head coach, and his brother Sven Beymann will assist him this summer in leading our younger swimmers at the brand new facility in The Falls.

    • 11 and up coaches – We welcome Coach Chris Pease to the Seals this summer as the 11 and up head coach. Chris is the varsity coach at Caney Creek High School. He will lead the older swimmers at the POA pool, and will be joined by Coach “B" when he returns for summer break from college.

We are looking forward to another exciting season of summer swimming fun. See you at the pool!
