May Newsletter

Hello All of AAA,

Wow, do we have a lot to go over here.

First and foremost, the purpose of our endeavor, we host the Weyerhauser Invitational at our pool this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (May 1-3).  Your entries are posted on the website, if you are swimming in the meet.  We count on all families to help with the meets we host, so I expect we will have at least as good a volunteer turnout as we had for the triathlon.

We are sponsoring a special event for the month of May.  Swimmers of all levels are encouraged to invite a friend or friends to come to practice on Thursdays in May.  We plan special activities for each of those Thursdays, and would love to see you invite friends and classmates to find out more about AAA.  We don't do it like most other teams.  A regular schedule of hard work, diligence in stroke application and technique, and plenty of games and social events make this a unique swimming experience.  Be sure to let them know about it!

I should mention a BIG thank you to those that helped with the triathlon, especially those that organized it, Pat Nierman and Peggy Hansen.  The team made some good money on the effort, and these kinds of efforts help keep our monthly dues in an affordable range compared with dues of other teams in the Willamette Valley.  Congratulations and kudos to those kids and parents from our team that actually performed the triathlon, your determination is duly noted!!

The next big thing on our calendar is our annual meeting, to be held May 27th (a Wednesday), from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.  This is directly after practice.  We will meet in the student center at South Albany High School.   The evening includes a potluck (not themed this year), reports from our current officers and coaches, and election of new officers and board members for the coming year.  If you are interested in a board position please talk to Scott Jackson at the pool before 5/14/09, our next board meeting, so he can get you on the ballot.  It is important to have this annual meeting as it is required by our by-laws, keeps the team updated and involved on activities, and provides a measure of transparency for our operation.  Please plan to attend.  The food was AWESOME last year.

The board recently decided to remove the Roseburg meet from our schedule in an effort to help control costs for the team and our families.  We do plan to host two of our dual meet/potluck events as we had last summer.  These were a great time for the visiting teams and our kids as well.  Our current plan is do host one after the Sunday events of the 10 & under meet as the pool will already be set up, and another on a Wednesday or Thursday during practice time.  As these are firmed up with other teams I will share more information.

As we have a meet this weekend, and another in early June, it is important to remind the swimmers and parents that our team suit is a Navy Blue suit.  You are welcome to buy from the vendor or manufacturer of your choice, but the color needs to be Navy blue.   Any swimmer wearing a cap for racing must wear our team cap.  Team pride and unity are promoted in this way, please be excited to race with your AAA colors on!

One question:  Did you smile today?
