TIME TO SIGN UP FOR PRELIMS AND FINALS!!!!
Age group Prelims and Finals are approaching the
week of July 20-25th! If your children will be swimming at
these events, we need you to sign up for one volunteer shift for
each Prelims you have a child in and also at Finals should your
child(ren) qualify. Let me emphasize that these meets, while
above and beyond the regular season meets, are also volunteer-run
and require your able assistance. Sign-up is online this
year, and the procedure will be the same as it was for regular
season jobs.
The Elks have been assigned specific duties by
Boulder Valley Summer Swim League personnel.
PRELIMS
This year we are responsible for staffing
clothing sales and providing one timer per lane for the FIRST HALF
of every Prelim meet, through the backstroke events. We are
trying something new this year. For timing, you can sign up
with a buddy and split the timing shift however you would like, as
long as one Elks timer per lane is on deck. Hopefully, this
will allow for more flexible scheduling for working parents, child
care, etc. This system can only work if everyone signs up to
help. (If we are short of people for buddies, one person will
need to time for the entire shift, generally not more than 2-3
hours.) Two people need to sign up for Clothing Sales and
will work together for the first half of each meet. Clothing
will already be set up, the cash box and signage will be in place,
and it’s generally located in a nice shady spot!
FINALS
If your children qualify for events at Finals on
Saturday, July 25th, you will need to fulfill one last volunteer
shift. Sign-up for Finals jobs is also online, and our
assignments are more varied than those for Prelims. No matter
where your skills lie, we have a place for you! I will have a
table set up at the Elks tent on that Saturday; please check in
with me and get a reminder slip with your job assignment and
time. Note that you will be expected to fulfill your job
commitment regardless of when your children’s events are
during the day, so plan accordingly. (Example: if your
child only swims in the Free Relay at the end of the day and you
have signed up for a morning timing shift, you still have to
time. Conversely, if your child only swims in the Medley
Relay at the start of the meet and you have signed up to take tents
down, you will still be expected to do that.)
Our kids and their coaches have worked hard and
done a great job this season! Many thanks for all of the hard
work you parents have put in throughout the summer. None of
this could happen without the gift of your time. Thank
you!
*Important: Your swimmers(s) must have turned in a signed League
Registration Form (BVSSL Eligibility form) in order to compete at
Prelims. Check with your child’s coach if you’re
not sure. Additional copies may be downloaded from the team
website or obtained from Curt.
Please speak to your coaches directly regarding attendance to
Prelims. Swimmer has to have attended at least 2 dual meets.
