Kudos to city's swim program at McDermott

As the parent of a swimmer, I would like to tell you how pleased we are with the Envious Swim Club at the McDermott Pool. It is so nice that a program of this caliber is offered. All other programs of this same type are a good distance away. It is such a healthy sport, we are extremely pleased that the Warwick Parks and Recreation Department is on board with this. I think that Warwick will do itself proud by continuing to sponsor this sport and the Envious Swim Club.

While swimming is great in general, it has been shown that competitive swimming promotes physical development, develops aerobic endurance and is the most beneficial form of cardiovascular exercise. It enhances children’s natural flexibility and promotes proportional muscular development, develops superior coordination and is the most injury-free of all children’s sports. It is a sport that will bring children fitness and enjoyment for life, promoting intellectual competence and learning life skills such as time management, self discipline and sportsmanship. Swimmers learn to set goals and the friendships they will develop helps with their socialization.

That said, we would like to thank Mike Rooney, Parks and Recreation Department supervisor, and Jim Dorney, facilities manager, for the wonderful job they are doing in promoting the sport of swimming. Who knows, perhaps one day Warwick will have an Olympic swimmer who can call McDermott his or her home pool!
