Bearcat Women Finish 7th at Sectionals

The Sectional Championships concluded on Saturday as the Bearcat Women’s Team took 7th place. The Colorado Stars finished 1st, Denver Hilltoppers 2nd and BEST from Arizona in 3rd

For the women, 17-year-old Crystal Kibby led the Bearcats through all her events swimming all best times, keeping pace with the top eight swimmers through much of the meet. Crystal had her goals set on qualifying for the Junior National Championships, and instead blew away the Junior time qualifications and swam US Open and National time qualifications in the 100 & 200 Breaststroke and the 200 & 400 I.M.

The Bearcat 800 Freestyle Relay of Tori Simenec, Amber Boucher, Crystal Kibby and Michelle Jasmer posted a time of 8:35.37, a Junior National qualification and earned the Bearcat ladies a 5th place finish. The next morning those same four swimmers placed 4th with a time of 4:26.57 on the 400 Medley Relay. The 200 Meter Freestyle and 200 Meter Relays both placed 8th and the 400 Free Relay placed 10th. All five Bearcat relays shattered the previous existing team records.

“I think the Bearcat swimmers came prepared and ready for fast competition,” said Head Coach, Craig Charlson. “The results were simply outstanding.”
