CAT Swimmers Excel at JOs!

Twenty-seven swimmers from Clearwater Aquatic Team (CAT) qualified for the Florida Swimming Junior Olympics in Ft. Meyers , Florida July 16-19. The CAT team finished 4th overall and thirteen swimmers took home medals, many of them multiple winners. In the Girls 10 and under group, Lyndsey Bender won gold (100 breast), and two silver (200 free, 200 IM) medals while Brianna Bender captured gold in the 400 free, silver in the 50 breast and bronze in the 200 free. For 10 and under boys, Matthew Hirschberger took the gold in all six of his events (50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 50 back and 100 back) while Austin Katz captured the silver in the 200 free. In the 11-12 Girls division, Morgan Perrotti won gold in the 100 back with a Florida Swimming and Junior Olympic record time of 1:07.78. Perrotti also took the gold in the 100 fly, silver in the 50 back, and bronze in the 200 IM. Syndey Pickrem won silver medals in the 50 and 100 breast. The 11-12 girls relay team of Tatianna Anabtawi, Pickrem, Alex Nuyianes, and Perrotti won gold in both the 200 and 400 medley relays and a bronze in the 200 freestyle relay. Taylor Katz (13-14 girls) swept all six of her events, taking home gold medals for the 100 free, 200 free, 400 free, 800 free, 1500 free and 200 IM. In the 13-14 boys group, Nick Alexiou captured 3 golds (200 free, 800 free, and 1500 free) and two silver (100 free, 400 free) while Ryan McRae took home silver in the 100 back and bronze medals in the 200 free and 200 back. The 13-14 boys relay team of Alexiou, McRae, Alex Katz and Robert Slockett won silver in both the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
