The City of Mobile Swim Association recently finished four days
of competition in the Southeastern Long Course Championships
in Nashville, TN. 52 athletes from Mobile qualified and made the
six plus hour trip to Nashville and man did they ever represent
Mobile’s swimming community. CMSA
battled over 40 swim teams and swam their way to the
team’s best ever third place finish. CMSA scored 1,642.50
points over the four days of swimming, behind Nashville Aquatic Cub
(3,597 points) and Excel Aquatics (1,905 points), both from
the greater Nashville area. We swam about a good as we could
for four straight days. The two teams that placed ahead of us have
rosters of over 500 swimmers, while we are currently working with
about 100 swimmers (so we qualified a ridiculous 50% of our team
for a championship meet with time standards).
The 10 and Under Girls Age Group
(pictured), comprised of: Kaylee
Bray, Gracie Whison, Allison Daniels, Mary Katherine
Stewart, Margaret Carey, Hollie Holbrook, Jessie Everett,
and Paige Madden, outscored all competitors in their age group and
were named the 2009 - 10 and Under Girls - Long
Course Southeastern Team Champion.
Other than the first time our team started tracking
them, there has never been more CMSA records set in one
weekend than this past weekend. CMSA has been around for over
thirty years and has had over fifty college swimmers, but this
may be the most talented team the club has ever had. CMSA swimmers
set 34 new individual and relay team records this weekend in
Nashville. That is unbelievable considering the level of swimmers
our team has had over the years. New team records set:
- Relays Teams 8,
- Paige Madden 5,
- Griffin Fisk 4,
- Will Glass 4,
- TJ Leon 3,
- Jessie Everett 2,
- Parker Glass 2,
- Hollie Holbrook 1,
- Slater Whisont 1,
- Cooper Brown 1,
- Carl Madden 1,
- Nick Colletti 1,
- Spencer Kerns 1.
20 of the 52 swimmers from CMSA scored individual points by
placing in the Top 8 of an event. The swimmers and the number
of events they placed Top 8 in are:
- Slater Whiston 7,
- Jessie Everett 7,
- Paige Madden 7,
- Will Glass 7,
- TJ Leon 6,
- Griffin Fisk 6,
- Carl Madden 5,
- Hollie Holbrook 5,
- James Courtney 5,
- Parker Glass 3,
- Spencer Kerns 3,
- Katie Marie Grafton 3,
- Marlin Brutkiewicz 2,
- Cooper Brown 2,
- Grace Molyneux 2,
- Gracie Whiston 1,
- Nick Colletti 1,
- Lauren Kinsey 1,
- Nicolas Larriviere 1,
- Josh Kimbrell 1.
CMSA had four swimmers score over 100 points each, led by Will
Glass (121 points and 13-14 Boys High Point Runner Up); Paige
Madden (118 points); Jessie Everett (109 points); and
Slater Whiston (104 points). Glass, Madden, Everett,
and Whiston all made finals (Top 8) in each of their
seven individual events in which they competed.Senior
swimmer TJ Leon was the High Point Champion for Senior Boys
scoring 97.5 points.
Several of these swims earned National Recognition for their
performances. Everett and Madden are nationally
ranked 12th and 22nd respectively in the 50 Free. Madden
is 3rd in the 100 Free, 3rd in the 200 Free, and 16th in the
400 Free. Hollie Holbrook is ranked 18th
nationally in the 50 Back. Will Glass is 24th in
the 200 Fly. Finally, TJ Leon is 7th nationally in
the 50 Free, 100 Free, and 100 Fly.
CMSA relays also packed a huge punch at Southeastern Championships
by finishing in the Top 3. Some impressive relay swims include:
- 1st Place 13-14 Girls 400 Free (Cooper Brown, Griffin Fisk,
Lauren Kinsey, Grace Molyneux);
- 1st Place 10 and Under Girls 200 Medley Relay (Hollie
Holbrook, Margaret Carey, Paige Madden, Jessie Everett);
- 2nd Place Senior Boys 400 Free Relay (TJ Leon, Nick
Colletti, Jonathan Young, Spencer Kerns);
- 2nd Place 10 and Under Boys 200 Medley Relay (James
Courtney, Patrick Dunne, Nicolas Larriviere, Sam Veselits);
- 3rd Place 13-14 Boys 400 Medley Relay (Will Glass, Marlin
Brutkiewicz, Carl Madden, Alex Simpson);
- 3rd Place Senior Boys 400 Medley Relay (Nick Colletti,
Spencer Kerns, TJ Leon, Jonathan Young).
*** The 10 & Under Girls Medley Relay is, to date, the third
fastest team in the nation. Also, the 10 & Under Girls 200 Free
Relay (Jessie Everett, Hollie Holbrook, Mary Katherine
Stewart, and Paige Madden) recorded the nation’s fastest
time, to date, and missed breaking the National Record for
that event by 8 tenths of a second.
The team also had six individuals win an event to be named
Southeastern Champion:
- Griffin Fisk (13-14 Girls 200 Fly);
- Will Glass (13-14 Boys 100 Back, 13-14 Boys 200 Fly, and 13-14
Boys 100 Fly);
- TJ Leon (Senior Boys 50 Free, Senior Boys 100 Free, Senior Boys
100 Fly);
- Carl Madden (13-14 Boys 800 Free, 13-14 Boys 1,500 Free);
- Paige Madden (10 & Under Girls 400 Free, 10 & Under
Girls 100 Free); and
- Slater Whiston (11-12 Boys 800 Free).
"Griffin Fisk had the break through meet for our team. She
has taken a huge step from never placing Top 8 finish at a
championship meet to becoming Southeastern Champion."
said CMSA Coach Greg Davis.
