Jr Olympics - Day 2

Day two of the 2009 Summer JO’s is in the books.  It was a long hot day, but Buena swimmers persevered and continued to improve their times.  After day one, Buenaventura Swim Club was in 12th place in the combined team scores, and we have our work cut out for us to maintain that ranking.  

Following are some highlights from Day 2: 

  • Jessie Ball improved her time and got another Sectionals time standard in the 200 Freestyle, placing 6th in the consolation final with a time of 2:13.77.  She also placed 19th in the 100 Breast with a slight improvement over her entry time, swimming a 1:21.46.
  •   Nine year old Meghan King swam in her first Junior Olympic competition had a busy day, swimming three events.  Meghan swam a 1:33.12 in the 100 fly, good enough for a 21st place finish.  She also got a 24th in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:29.71 and a 31st place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:55.10.   
  • Nick Vargas earned a spot in the Championship final of the 200 freestyle, finishing in 6th place with a time of 2:09.63.  He also improved his 400 I.M. time, finishing in 18th place with a time of 5:22.60.   
  • Austin Takeda had a light day, competing in the 200 freestyle, improving his time down to a 2:12.84, earning 19th place.  
  • Ten year old Lindsay Clark, swimming in her first Junior Olympic competition, made the championship final in the 200 freestyle with an impressive 2:31.96, good enough for a 6th place finish.  She also swam the 100 backstroke, making the consolation final and getting 10th place overall, with a time of 1:24.87.  
  • Eleven year old Niles Biolley finished in 29th place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:27.77 and had a 34th place finish in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 41.46.   
  • Chesna Biolley made the championship final in the 400 IM, with a time of 5:25.45, earning an 8th place finish overall.  Shortly after, she had a big drop in the 100 breaststroke in the consolation final, earning a 10th overall finish and a time of 1:21.19.   
  • Jordan Capper swam also swam both the 400 I.M. and the 100 breast.  In the 400 I.M., he placed 12th with a time of 5:06.81 and in the 100 breast, he had a 15th place finish and a time of 1:15.99.  
  • Delani Clark improved her time in the 50 breast to a 40.44, earning a 22nd place finish.   
  • Macy Sutter, competing in her first Junior Olympics competition, improved her 100 breaststroke to a 1:23.09, earning a 27th place finish.  

These are good results and the future “Buena Greats” are beginning to display their talents!  I look forward to another great day tomorrow.
