Great end to an excellent season. We just got back from
Newport News, Va where Julia & Olivia Sheffer competed in the
Virginia Age Group Championships.
Julia started off the meet swimming the 400 Free on Thursday
Evening. She swam a great race and almost dropped 10 seconds
from her best time. But she did not stop there, the next day
she continued her fast swimming in the 200 Free where she dropped
almost 4 seconds from her best time. She continued her
fabulous swimming through the rest of the weekend. During the
next two day Julia competed in 50 & 100 Free and the 50 &
100 Back. As the meet continued to get longer, Julia continued
to get stronger. Her last event of the meet was the 100
Free. She dropped over 2 seconds in this event with that she
had finished her meet with a success..
Olivia Sheffer, not to be out done by her sister, was on fire
in the water. She swam the 100 Backstroke dropping just
under 4 seconds and made it back to finals that night. At
finals Olivia swam her second fastest 100 back time ever and
finished in 12th place over all. On the final day of
competition Olivia swam the 200 Backstroke, and again swam another
personal best time by dropping 5 seconds and made finals that
evening. Before Olivia’s final’s swim there was a
weather delay, postponing her swim from 6:20 to almost 8:30
PM. After playing in the park and sitting around for almost 5
hours, Olivia got her chance to swim her 200 Back for the second
time. Even with all the delays and distractions, Olivia was
able to finish with a 12th place finish.
It was a great weekend full of great competition, fast
swimming, and great attitudes. There is nothing better than
finishing the season with such great swims and positive motivation
for the future. Hopefully next year Julia & Olivia will
have more of their teammates with them on the pool deck.
