11 & Over State Championships

Twenty swimmers from the mighty Bearcat Swim Club competed at the 2009 Long Course 11 & Over State Championships last weekend at Mount Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon.  The Bearcats swam against the top swimmers from all around Oregon during the four-day competition.  Each day the coaches witnessed new lifetime best swims from almost every race and several first place finishes!  Overall the Bearcats placed 11^th out of 40 teams.

Emma Dow:  200m Breaststroke (4^th), 400m Freestyle (7^th), 400m Individual Medley (5^th),

Evette Dow:  200m Individual Medley (5^th), 100m Backstroke (6^th), 50m Breaststroke (4^th), 200m Breaststroke (8^th), 200m Freestyle (7^th), 100m Breaststroke (State Champion!)

Jerusha Dressel:  200m Breastsroke (5^th), 100m Breaststroke (5^th)

Joseph Orton:  50m Freestyle (3^rd)

Allie Rasmussen:  200m Individual Medley (2^nd), 800m Freestyle (3^rd), 400m Freestyle (State Champion!), 200m Freestyle (2^nd), 100m Freestyle (4^th), 200m Butterfly (6^th)

Mackenzie Rumrill:  200m Individual Medley (State Champion!), 50m Breaststroke (2^nd), 200m Breaststroke (6^th), 200m Freestyle (State Champion!), 100m Freestyle (State Champion!)

Jeffrey Tran:  50m Breaststroke (5^th), 100m Breaststroke (4^th)

Maria Wetzel:  200m Backstroke (6^th)

Kyle Wicks:  200m Breaststroke (6^th), 100m Breaststroke (7^th)

Congratulations to these top 8 finishers and a superb job to all of the Bearcats who competed at State.  Next up, four swimmers (Emma Dow, Evette Dow, Allie Rasmussen and Mackenzie Rumrill will represent the Bearcat Swim Club in Hawaii to compete in the Western Zones Championships.  Tori Simenec and Crystal Kibby will race with the nation’s best at the U.S. Open.  Good luck to those swimmers!   The team will conclude the summer season in Bend at the Bend Open.
