USA Speedo Champions Series Update—2009 California/Nevada Section Championships

Barracuda sectional swimmers’ Emma Hunt, Jessica Schanzer and Blake Langland annihilated club records set just weeks ago!  Emma Hunt surged to 1:00.78 in the 100 meter freestyle, 2:09.49 in the 200, 4:33.29 in the 400 and 1:06.27 in the 100 meter butterfly; all-time club standards for these events. Emma represented the Barracuda’s well, swimming within the strength of the pack of her UCSB recruiting class with her college coach looking on.  Jessica Schanzer had skipped the Pacific Junior Olympics and showed up somewhat rested, though untested.  Any anxiety over performance quickly turned to lifetime best swims in the water as she lowered the Barracuda all-time best 100 meter backstroke record to 1:10.71.  She completed a clean sweep of time drops on her event list with a 28.95 50 meter freestyle, 1:01.57 100 meter freestyle and 2:15.00 200 meter freestyle.  Blake Langland swam unshaved and had the highest placing for the club as we prepare for Junior National Championships (All 18-under) to be held August 10-14 in Federal Way , Washington

.

Blake swam to 24.28 and 35 th

place out of 219 competitors in the 50 meter freestyle, an event that boasts section record holder and Olympian Jason Lezak and a host of senior national qualifiers.

Blake also placed 45 th

out of 277 contestants in the 100 meter freestyle.
