Congratulations and thanks are due
the swimmers, coaches and parents who banded together to produce
one of Lake Country Swim Team’s finest team efforts last
weekend at the 13-Over State meet. The kids swam great
amassing 170 best times in 240 individual events and 37 best times
out of 53 relay events. That’s 70 % lifetime bests, our
highest 13-Over state meet percentage ever.
The great swimming performance was
a direct result of our working as a team toward the common goal of
team excellence. It was a lesson in the power of unity of
purpose. If we hold on to that lesson, we are a better team
today than we were a week ago.
The swimming performance was
strong enough for a second place finish with 1711 total
points. With SWAT and OZ on our heels, we needed to swim as
well as we did to hold on to second. The outcome was in the
hands of our swimmers, and they determined it in our favor.
High Point
Awards:
Nearly every swimmer contributed
points to our effort. We had two swimmers recognized with top
3 finishes in the individual high-point competition.
- Haley Pietila led our team in
scoring points with 93. That was good enough for the second
place high-point award in the 15-16 girls age group.
- Tracy Vogel scored 91 points for
the team capturing the high-point title for the senior girls.
State
Champions:
We had four swimmers capture five
individual state titles in the meet.
- Haley Pietila won the 15-16
girls’ 50 and 100 meter freestyle events.
- Tracy Vogel won the senior
girls’ 200 Meter butterfly.
- Jake Prodoehl won the 15-16
boys’ 200 meter freestyle.
- Emma Goral won the 15-16
girls’ 100 meter butterfly.
- Jake Prodoehl, Tyler Remmel, Cody
Roller and Julien Hensen won the 200 meter medley relay.
State Records
We had swimmers establish three
new state records at the meet.
- Haley Pietila’s time of 57.46
in the 100 meter freestyle set a new record.
- The 400 meter freestyle relay team
comprised of Kate Jones, Lacey Liest, Emma Goral and Haley Pietila
broke a 1995 SSTY record, going 4:00.66.
- The 200 meter freestyle relay team
comprised of Kate, Haley, Lacey and Holly Johnson broke a Lake
Country record from 2004, going 1:50.08.
Team Records
In addition to the state record
performances that are also team records, we set three other team
records in the meet
- The senior Boys 400 meter medley
relay team of Jake Prodoehl, Tyler Remmel, Cody Roller and Julien
Hensen set a team record with a time of 3:58.95, besting a 1998
record that included coach Ted Krueger among others.
- The same group also set a new team
record in the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 1:48.62, again
taking the record away from Ted and his 1998 cohorts.
- Jake Prodoehl smashed the Connor
Andrews 2005 team record in the 15-16 200 meter free going 1:56.70.
