ABC of SMRT and Head Coach Dave Horton are
pleased to announce the addition of Ben Pulskamp as our Gold Group
coach at our W.L. Stephens Facility. Ben has swum competitively for
14 years with YSSC. He has many top finishes as a club swimmer at
state, age group, senior sectionals, and Y-Nationals. Coach Dave
Horton considers him a welcome addition to the coaching staff
stating, “He is one of the best butterfliers and backstrokers
to come out of S.C. Swimming, and his knowledge of stroke technique
and enthusiasm will be a great addition to the SMRT
program.”
Ben completed his 4 years of college swimming for the University of
North Carolina-Wilmington. He has helped lead UNCW to 4
conferencechampionships and still places on the university top
times list with a 2nd place 200 fly (1:50:99), 4th place 200 back
(1:50:91, and 8th place 100 back (51:39). He received the 2003-2004
Sam O’Leary Award for outstanding swimmer; an award named
after the first UNCW Division 1 All American swimmer. He also
brings his experience as a coach at the UNCW swim camp coaching 3
to 12 yr olds during his summers at college. “I can’t
wait to start coaching for SMRT so that I can pass on my knowledge
and experience of the sport of swimming to others”, Ben
explains.
Ben comes from a large family of 2 brothers and 3 sisters,
currently lives in West Ashley with his brother and a friend, both
former swimmers for YSSC, and will soon be a first time
uncle.
