Sugar Creek Swim Club alum, Tracy Menzel has been named a
finalist for the NCAA’s prestigious Woman of
the Year Award. A recent Kenyon College
graduate, Tracy is one of just three Division III athletes still in
the running for the illustrious award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year Award honors senior women
student-athletes who have excelled in the areas of academic
achievement, athletics, service, and leadership. An NCAA committee
composed of representatives from member schools and conferences
selected the top 30 honorees - 10 from each division - from a pool
of 132 conference and independent nominees, representing all three
NCAA divisions and multiple sports.
That list was narrowed this week to the 9nine finalists - three
from each division. Next month, the NCAA Committee on Women’s
Athletics will select the national winner from that group of nine.
The recipient of the 19th annual award will be announced during the
2009 NCAA Woman of the Year awards dinner on October 18 in
Indianapolis.
Tracy was a four-year member of the Kenyon
swim team, which won the NCAA Division III championship in each of
her last three seasons. In addition to the team titles, Menzel also
collected three event titles. She was the 2007 and 2009 national
champion in the 100-yard breaststroke, as well as a member of the
2007 national champion 200-yard medley relay team. She was a
16-time NCAA All-American and a national runner-up in four other
events throughout her career. Menzel
holds four Kenyon records, which were all set this past
season. She was the recipient of an
NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship, she was a four-time College Swimming
Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Academic All-American, and
was named a 2009 ESPN The
Magazine First Team Academic All-American.
During Tracy’s nine-year career with the
Sugar Creek Swim Club she was a multi-time state finalist and set
numerous club records. In fact, she still holds one individual and
6 SCSC relay records! Trayc was a four-year varsity letter winner
for Greencastle HS and reprented them in the State HS Championships
as well.
