PEAK Swimmer #1 11 Year Old Backstroker in the Country

Pearland swimmer Catherine Wu, 12, was named the fastest 11 year old, 200 yard backstroke swimmer and the second fastest 11 year old 100 yard backstroke swimmer in the country. Wu’s rankings were finalized after USA Swimming, the governing body for swimming in the United States , tallied all swim times from the season that ended in March 2009. 

 

 

 

 

 

Wu earned her record-setting times as an 11 year old during the 2008-2009 swimming season.  She swam a 2:28.11 in the 200 yard backstroke and 1:08.96 in the 100 yard backstroke at the Texas Age Group Swimming Championship (TAGS.) Wu also placed 8^th nationally in the 50 yard backstroke with her time of 33.13 at TAGS.

Wu’s times at TAGS placed her first in the 200, 100 and 50 yard backstroke events; setting a state record in the 200 and 100 distances and tying the state record in the 50 yard backstroke.  She also came in second in the 50 yard butterfly, second in the 100 yard butterfly, and fourth in the 200 yard butterfly.  She was named the high point swimmer of the meet for 11-12 year old girls.
